EVS IPDirector Integrates With Avid iNews

EVS continues to expand its production-workflow capabilities with new integration between its IPDirector content-production-management system and the Avid iNews newsroom system, made possible through MOS protocol support and a new ActiveX browser for iNews clients. EVS will demonstrate this integration during the NAB Show at the EVS stand in the Central Hall (C9508).

With the speed and reliability of EVS Instant Tapeless Technology and the efficient control of newsroom operations with iNews, the integrated workflow offers enhanced capabilities to newscasters.

Running order managed from the iNews client interface is kept up to date on the IPDirector control panel, ensuring full control over the rundown of playlists in IPDirector.

With EVS’s new ActiveX plug-in database browser integrated with the iNews client, Avid operators can access any EVS clip and associated metadata in the IPDirector database and drag-and-drop it to the rundown list. The user to search on any IPDirector database field.

The ActiveX browser interface allows an iNews user to search clips in the IPDirector database. iNews rundowns create and update IPDirector playlists in real time with associated metadata (name, duration, and time code as well as iNews-specific data) using MOS protocol. Clips in the iNews rundown that are not already available in hi-res on the EVS server are referenced as a virtual element in the ActiveX interface. Once the content is online on the server, the clip status is instantly visible in the iNews rundown.

For enhanced security, the workflow can be configured in full redundancy, with an additional production server and IPDirector system for backup.

“As part of our commitment to increase the benefits of using EVS technology for news productions, the integration with Avid and its newsroom computer system was a must,” said EVS CEO Pierre L’Hoest. “Although Xedio, our modular production system for news, is already MOS-compliant, the recent support of this standard protocol by IPDirector represents another significant step for EVS and its strategy to further integrate with third-party systems.”
