Verizon To Carry YES’s 3D Yankees Games

Verizon has signed on to carry YES’s 3D telecast of the two New York Yankees games in July, which are being sponsored by DirecTV and Panasonic. The deal marks the first non-satellite operator YES has brought on to carry the games, although more carriage deals are expected.

The New York Yankees-Seattle Mariners games on July 10 and 11 will be available to FiOS TV customers in live in New York City, Long Island, parts of New Jersey, and Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties that have an HD set-top box, a 3D TV set, and 3D glasses. Verizon will provide a free manual-adjustment procedure to interested subscribers so the set-top box can sync the 3D signal with the 3D TV.

The deal is another step in Verizon’s move into the 3D realm, as the telco plans to roll out a formal 3D offering in time for the Christmas shopping season, when 3D TV sales are expected to spike.
