GlobeCast Shifts into World Cup Mode

GlobeCast is gearing up for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa this summer, providing a comprehensive array of services to rightsholders and non-rightsholders for worldwide distribution. For rightsholding broadcasters, dedicated HD and SD uplink and downlink paths are available to and from the IBC (International Broadcast Centre) satellite dish farm in Johannesburg, for end-to-end delivery of the matches and associated content.  GlobeCast is providing multiple unilateral feeds for clients including ITV (UK) and TF1 (France).

For one major European Broadcaster, GlobeCast will also build and manage a studio and stand-up position with fibre links into the IBC, which is conveniently located across the road.

Outside the IBC, GlobeCast is offering a wide array of services to broadcasters from all over the world, including HD and SD SNG trucks and flyaways, international and domestic fibre links, studios, camera crews and playout for both domestic and international delivery via satellite and fibre.  Some clients include, SVT (UK), Sky Italia (Italy), Mediaset (Italy), RAI (Italy), Softbank (Japan), Korea Telecom (Korea), TV Asahi (Japan), Fox Australia and RCTI (Indonesia).

The services provided take full advantage of GlobeCast’s worldwide satellite and fibre network, as well as its partners, for reception and turnaround to PoPs in Europe, Australia, Asia, the United States, Latin America and Africa. GlobeCast has sold more than 300Mhz of satellite capacity on the IS709, W7, W3A and Measat satellites and more than 1300MB of fully redundant, networked SDH fibre connectivity over the six week period.

For contribution of feeds for both rightsholders and non-rightsholders, GlobeCast will deploy a fleet of 12 SD and HD SNG uplinks to stadiums, team hotels and training camps in every corner of South Africa.

GlobeCast has also secured 11 live stand-up positions – including views of the stadiums in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Polokwane, George, Durban and Pretoria as well as city views of Johannesburg and Cape Town – for use by worldwide non-rightsholders throughout the tournament. GlobeCast is expecting to be providing feed points at as many as 50 of the 64 games.
