Hungarian Broadcaster Installs Miranda Infrastructure at New Headquarters

Magyar Televízió (MTV), Hungary’s state broadcaster, has installed Miranda Technologies infrastructure, monitoring, and branding equipment at its new television headquarters in Óbuda, on the outskirts of Budapest.  The new facility consists of six studios, editorial premises, and offices across 55,000 square meters of land. This consolidates all of MTV’s divisions, which were previously located at 20 different sites across Budapest.

At the heart of MTV’s new broadcast operation is Miranda’s Densité signal processing equipment. Ten Densité frames house 200 signal-processing modules altogether, including a large number of up/down/cross converters, digital amplifiers, and change-overs. This signal-processing infrastructure was installed by Rex Films, Miranda’s Hungarian distributor.

“In the past, we used a mix of modular interface solutions from different vendors,” says Mr. Gábor Pusztai, head of video engineering, MTV. “By moving to Miranda’s Densité range, we have streamlined our operations significantly, and gained so much more flexibility.”

Four Miranda Kaleido-X multi-viewers are used to monitor MTV’s four television channels, namely m1, m1 HD, m2, and m2 HD, using eight 46-inch LCD screens. The multi-viewer system provides sophisticated alarm capabilities, including video, audio, and metadata (including Dolby E) alarms.

An additional eight Kaleido-X16 multi-viewers are used to drive 28 monitoring displays across multiple rooms, including the newsroom, transcription, and archive areas, as well as a virtual studio.  The 1RU Kaleido-X16 multi-viewer features 16 video inputs, two multi-viewer outputs, and an integrated 16×2 router.

Channel branding for MTV’s four channels is performed by four Imagestore 750 HD/SD master control and channel branding processors, which offer four keying layers, dual DVEs, and advanced audio processing. The processors are controlled via automation and manually, using the PresStation master control panel. A further Imagestore 750 is used by MTV news studio operators for live events, such as the 2010 Winter Olympics.
