IBC 2010: Pesa To Intro’s Latest in Flagship Product Lines

At IBC 2010, PESA will present the latest features of its Cheetah (64X64 up to 1024X1024), Cougar (32X32) and Ocelot (16X16) series of crosspoint routers supporting multi-format high definition video for ASI, SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI applications. In addition, PESA will unveil the new Jaguar 64X64 series for multi-rate HD formats and the PESA PRO line of switchers for DVI and HDMI signals.

PESA’s Jaguar-3, 64X64 matrix switcher routes all SMPTE and ITU standard serial digital video signals. It also supports embedded audio and other ancillary data required for HD-SDI and DVB/ASI broadcast sources. Jaguar-3 is suited t for SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI switching applications in digital cinema, telemedicine, high-end presentation rooms, satellite imaging, command centers, and simulation/visualization environments.

Although small in size (occupying on 2U space), Jaguar-3 supports standard data rates from 50Mbps up to 3Gbps, and video transports up to 1080p/60. All inputs are auto-equalized; and with standard SMPTE formatted outputs, each signal is auto-sensed and re-clocked to the appropriate transport stream. Signals can be re-clocked up to 80m for 1080p/60.  For non-standard formats, re-clocking circuitry can be set to by-pass mode. Two independent reference inputs allow easy selection of gen-lock from a black burst or tri-level sync source. The compact frame design features front load / hot swappable card sets and includes space for an optional redundant power supply and controller module. Jaguar-3 provides control ports that allow configuring the frame for a variety of control interfaces including Ethernet control, RS-232/422, PESA’s P2K or 3500Pro, and PESA’s new Cattrax graphical user interface; plus it can be used with PESA’s full range of new Ethernet control panels.

In an effort to expand its reach into the Professional AV markets, PESA will present its new PRO 8X8 DVI Switcher. The PRO-8X8-DVI is a 1U rack mountable frame assembly with 8 DVI-D input ports and 8 DVI-D output ports. This digital matrix switcher is capable of selecting content from eight separate video sources to any or all outputs. The PRO-8X8-DVI provides single-link, DVI-D operations up to 1920X1200@60Hz (WUXGA) resolutions as well as 480p to 1080p video formats.

The PRO-8X8-HDMI-CAT enables users to connect up to eight HDMI sources, such as Blu-Ray Disc Players, DVD players, DVR recorders, Satellite TV set-top boxes, HDMI cameras, computers, and game consoles to eight HDMI displays. The frame features High Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) compatibility, which eliminates issues normally encountered with HDCP encoding on switching devices that send video transports simultaneously to more than one display. The PESA PRO-8X8-HDMI-CAT fulfills professional A/V integration requirements for multi-source HDMI distribution, making it effective for use with all HDMI displays and projection systems used in corporate, government, educational, or digital signage settings.

PESA’s Cheetah-3 is one of the smallest and most compact 3G-SDI fiber optic routers on the market, offering a 144X144 in only 4U.  PESA’s Eco-friendly Cheetah-3 offers sizes starting at 36X36 with the flexibility to expand up to 144X144 without the need for additional rack space or power supplies. A fully loaded frame consumes less than 600 Watts, reducing the cost of total ownership over the life of the product. Systems can be setup to support a wide range of digital transports including SMPTE 259M, 292M, and 424M. The Cheetah-3 supports both singlemode fiber and multimode fiber, Ethernet control and diagnostics, as well as a full line of remote control panels to manage any type of system control requirements.

PESA will display the full line of VidBlox modules for conversion, scaling, and distribution of DVI, VGA, RGB, and YPbPr across coax or fiber optic 3G-SDI formats.  These miniature conversion modules are compatible with PESA’s full line of 3G-SDI Fiber and Coax Matrix Switchers, allowing computer-based video signals to be switched across any broadcast format switching fabric.  DVI and VGA routing systems can be configured as large as 1024X1024.
The Quadbox series of miniature 3Gb/s media conversion products allow users to easily convert coax-based equipment across a fiber optic transmission path. Up to four individual signals can be supported with each Quadbox module to convert coax to fiber and fiber to coax. In addition, the Quadbox series is offered as a 4X4 fiber switcher, a 4X4 coax switcher, or a dual channel bi-directional fiber/coax combination. Each model is housed in a compact package, which can be mounted under a table or they can be rack mounted using the optional 1U tray assembly. Up to four modules can be installed in the 1U tray and powered through a shared power distribution box with only one AC power connection.

PESA’s Sabertooth fiber optic mini-extenders transport SD/HD/3G-SDI video over long distances using a single fiber optic cable. As one of the smallest profile coax-to-fiber and fiber-to-coax digital video media converters, the Sabertooth has a diameter of 0.55″ (14.0mm) and is only 3.14″(79.6mm) long. They provide high performance media conversion between BNC equipped 75 Ohm coax connectors and LC connector-style singlemode or multimode fiber cable. With a diameter smaller than a BNC connector, the Sabertooth allows for the tight unit-to-unit pitch available, making them ideal for sharing fiber and coax connections on a standard BNC-based router.
