IBC 2010: MultiDyne Unveils New Line of HD-SDI Fiber Optic Transport Links

MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport and routing solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, has introduced a new line of multi-rate HD-SDI fiber optic transport links – the HD-1520, HD-1540, HD-3200 and HD-3400 – at IBC 2010 (Stand 2.A54). These new solutions, offer 1.5G or 3Gb/s fiber optic transport over a single-mode fiber, with multi-rate HD transport up to 1080P HD-SDI.

The HD-1520 offers 1.5G HD Video (720P and 1080i) and 2-CH two-way data (RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485). The HD-3200 provides 3.0G HD Video (720P, 1080i and 1080P) and 2-CH two-way data (RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485). The HD-1520 and HD-3200 are ideally suited to provide fiber interfaces for unmanned POV (point-of-view) field cameras and sky cameras that capture the city skyline on broadcast news, weather and traffic reports.

The HD-1540 and HD-3400 provide the basic building block for today’s video and audio infrastructure. The HD-1540 has 1.5G HD video (720P and 1080i) and 4-CH line-level audio and the HD-3400 offers 3.0G HD video (720P, 1080i and 1080P) and 4-CH line-level audio. The HD-1540 and HD-3400 are ideal to interconnect video and audio equipment within a broadcast facility, remote studios and corporate or university campus environments.

“We are proud to offer even more options to our customers with our new line of cost-effective HD-SDI fiber optic transport systems,” says Frank Jachetta, managing director, MultiDyne. “With MultiDyne’s design philosophy, end-users can choose the product that best meets their 1.5G or 3G HD video, audio and data fiber transport needs.”

The HD-1520, HD-1540, HD-3200 and HD-3400 provide active HD loop-through, equalized inputs, and reclocked dual outputs, supporting 5 – 2970 Mb/s, SDI, HD-SDI, 1.5 G or 3G HD-SDI, DVB, ASI and SMPTE standards 424M, 292M, 259M and 310M.

Low-Cost, Compact HD-Multi-Link

This year at IBC MultiDyne has also introduced a low-cost, compact, advanced version of its HD-Multi-Link. This updated version of the HD-Multi-Link is designed for the drop-and-repeat, daisy-chain optical distribution of SD-SDI and HD-SDI signals on single-mode fiber. It offers full compatibility with SMPTE-compliant HD-SDI products such as the company’s HD-1500. Applications for the HD-Multi-Link include production monitoring and distribution; announcer booth, event presentation, pool and stadium house feeds; campus distribution; and applications that require the optical drop-and-repeat of HD-SDI with HDMI monitoring capability.

HD-Multi-Link with electro-optical DA provides a mid-point fiber distribution breakout box for one copper HD-SDI output with a signal quality of up to 1.5G HD-SDI. An optical input and optical output transports the signal to the next device. The HD-Multi-Link also provides an HDMI output for local video and audio monitoring. HD-Multi-Link supports audio and data that has been embedded externally and provides for audio de-embedding from the HD-SDI stream for output on HDMI, or on separate RCA connectors.

“The HD-Multi-Link offers a compact and economical solution for the distribution of HD-SDI via fiber and copper in a drop-and-repeat configuration” says Fred Scott, vice president of sales and business development, MultiDyne. “The HDMI output allows the use of inexpensive HDMI monitors instead of costly HD-SDI devices. Fiber is the only choice when transporting high bit rates over long distances. MultiDyne offers the simplest to most sophisticated solutions for all of our customers’ fiber optic transport needs.”

SMPTE standards supported by HD-Multi-Link include SMPTE 292M, 1.485 Gbps and SMPTE 259M 270 Mbps.

The portable HD-Multi-Link features a rugged metal housing and is available with ST optical connectors and includes a 5 VDC in-line power supply. External battery operation from 5 to 16 VDC is also supported.
