IBC 2010: SENSIO Hits the Floor with Latest 3D Technologies

At IBC 2010, SENSIO is demonstrating implementations of SENSIO 3D technology across the home theater, live sports and entertainment, and gaming markets. The company is also highlighting collaborations with manufacturers of media processing chipsets, professional 3D processing and infrastructure products, digital cinema solutions, 3DTVs, gaming systems, and PC-based video player solutions for the consumer market.

SENSIO delivers high-fidelity 3D video over conventional 2D broadcast networks (cable, satellite, and IPTV), allowing playback on any 3D display device, including home theater and digital cinema projectors. SENSIO has pioneered 3D delivery in the home theater market since its introduction of the first high-end home theater 3D video processor at CES 2003. This year, at the 3D Entertainment Summit, the company is featuring technology integration and partnerships targeted at 3D in the home.

GEO Semiconductor has licensed the SENSIO 3D Encoder Core for the GEO Realta T2 chip used worldwide in leading broadcast and media systems. The GEO Realta Platform is the only chipset platform that enables full compliance with the “HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) powered by Teranex” industry benchmark. SENSIO 3D technology is also being integrated by Trident Microsystems into its TV550 3D TV system-on-chip (SoC) and other chips designed for 3DTVs, and has been selected for the new line of Vizio 3DTVs.

Compatible with leading HD satellite broadcast and on-demand systems, content encoded in the SENSIO 3D format is viewable via standard HD set-top boxes and on the growing number of 3DTVs coming to market.

SENSIO’s LaBerge Featured in 3D Ecosystem Panel at 3D Entertainment Summit

Richard LaBerge, EVP and CMO at SENSIO, will participate in the featured panel session “The FUTURE Drivers in the 3D Ecosystem” at the 3D Entertainment Summit at the Hilton Los Angeles in Universal City, CA.

Scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 16, the session will address the rapidly changing entertainment landscape and discuss how new technologies will determine the winners in this ecosystem. Topics will include the morphing of distribution, production, creative, and marketing; the sectors from which new innovation will spring; and how existing entertainment products may be vulnerable to obsolescence.

“The entertainment industry once evolved over years of change and innovation, but it now moves at a much faster pace that threatens to leave current products and vendors behind,” says LaBerge. “By understanding the forces driving this change — and the rise of 3D, in particular — today’s businesses can get a clearer vision of where the industry is headed and the role they can play in it. I look forward to contributing further to this discussion at the 3D Entertainment Summit.”

A founder of SENSIO, LaBerge has worked for Mouvement Desjardins, the largest association of credit unions in North America, and served as executive vice president of SAJE, a Montreal-based non-profit incubation group. He holds an MBA jointly from l’École des Hautes Études Commerciales – HEC (University of Montreal) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in finance and international management.
