SENSIO Earns Accolades at IBC Innovation Awards, CSI Awards

3D was prime topic at the IBC2010 Innovation Awards, being honored in three out of nine accolades and the Judges’ Prize going to the FIFA World Cup in 3D. SENSIO Technologies was right in the middle, being listed as one of ESPN’s technology partners in its podium-positioned bid for the Innovation Awards’ Content Creation category. IN addition, SENSIO 3D was designated “Best 3D TV Technology or Project” by Cable and Satellite International (CSI) magazine.

The prestigious CSI Awards are designed to reward technical and product marketing excellence in the cable, satellite, terrestrial broadcasting, and IPTV sectors. SENSIO surpassed NDS, Ericsson, and Motorola to take this trophy.

“We are extremely proud to be objectively recognized as best-in-class in 3D technology,” says Nicholas Routhier, President and CEO of SENSIO. “It is gratifying for our engineers and for the whole team. We’re also very happy that concrete applications of SENSIO 3D technology were also honored by the IBC Innovation Awards. We’d like to congratulate all the winners of the Judges’ Prize, especially HBS, who we have collaborated with on many live 3D events in the past two years including the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and also ESPN, who we partnered with for the nominated NCAA broadcast. We are delighted that pioneering in 3D broadcasting is getting the recognition it deserves.”

SENSIO was present at IBC in a wide range of products from its partners. International Datacasting showed its SFX-4104 IRD, integrating the SENSIO 3D IP Decoder Core, which enabled the live 3D screening of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in cinemas around the world. Miranda Technologies exhibited its Densité 3DX-3901 3D video processor with SENSIO 3D IP Encoder and Decoder Core capability. Thomson Video Networks previewed its ViBE EM3000 MPEG-4/2 encoder and Teranex Systems, Inc. showed its VC100 universal frame synchronizer and format converter with VC1-3DE application, both with SENSI 3D.

In addition, Gennum Corporation’s event unveiled its GX3290, the industry’s largest crosspoint switch (290×290), and officially premiered SENSIO Advanced encoding and decoding technology in demonstration of the switch’s capability. SENSIO’s next-generation 3D technology enables processing of 3D signals, whether spatially compressed in a single 2D channel or full-resolution dual-stream HD 3D. With both backwards- and forwards-compatibility, SENSIO Advanced enables progressive and seamless deployment to dual-channel distribution.

“The whole team is very happy with the outcome of IBC2010,” says Richard LaBerge, EVP and CMO at SENSIO. “We’re currently surfing on a wave of success built on our recent license agreements with GEO Semiconductor and Trident Microsystems, each of whom will be integrating SENSIO 3D into chip solutions for, respectively, broadcast products and 3D TVs, plus the pioneering 3D broadcasting, in which we participated, is being recognized. With the upcoming mass-market launch of VIZIO’s 3D TVs featuring SENSIO 3D and IBC enabling us to move a step closer to attaining our sales objectives, we’re not yet heading back to the beach.”
