MOOV Graphics Give a Boost to BBC Coverage of Commonwealth Games
Story Highlights
The Commonwealth Games in New Delhi concluded last night, with the controversy over the readiness of the stadia and facilities overshadowing many of the technical and athletic achievements. But the BBC, for one, came out of the Games for the better, thanks to graphics sequences used during its coverage. Created by broadcast specialist MOOV on a Chyron Lyric PRO 8 platform, the graphics were highlighted by a series of templates that formed the basis for BBC’s linking sequences.
The most striking of these was the Coming Up sequence, which had the New Delhi skyline as a background with kites flying above it. Chyron’s Inherit State program enabled the flag of a chosen country to be laid over the background. Flags could be displayed in any order at any given time, without all possible transition moves having to be preset.
“I have no doubt that this is an innovative sequence never seen on TV before,” says Duncan Foot, managing director of MOOV. “It combines cutting-edge technology with amazing creative flair to produce a stunning real-time sequence.
The graphics team produced a full range of visuals, including live HD graphics, 12 hours a day over the course of the Games. MOOV also deployed six Avid editing suites.
