Tech Pros Get Real, Virtual Tours at SVG’s Venue Technology Summit
As sports-venue technology grow exponentially with each passing year, stadiums and arenas around the U.S. and the world are taking on a whole new role. No U.S. venue represents this more than New Meadowlands Stadium, site of SVG’s third-annual Sports Venue Technology Summit. On Nov. 10, more than 200 sports-technology professionals congregated at the brand-new home of the New York Giants and New York Jets in East Rutherford, NJ, for an in-depth look at the stadium’s state-of-the art facilities and to discuss the latest trends in sports-venue technology.
Sony served as the Title Sponsor, while Chyron, Grass Valley, and Verizon Business were Diamond Sponsors. Bexel, EVS, Harris, NewTek, Ross Video, and SOS Global Express also sponsored the event.
New Meadowlands CTO Peter Brickman and VP of Design and Construction Bob Jordan kicked off the program with an overview of the New Meadowlands’ project history, followed by a run-through of the game-day workflows from New York Jets’ Rich Gentile, senior director of broadcasting/multimedia, and New York Giants’ Don Sperling, VP/executive producer.
Attendees were taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium, including a look at the control room, scoreboard-operations room, loading dock and truck bay, Commissioners’ Club, press box, PA station, and the field itself.
In addition, attendees were offered a comprehensive look at the construction and technological capabilities of two state-of-the-art sports venues: the Minnesota Twins’ Target Field and the Orlando Magic’s Amway Center, with a live look at the bowels of the Orlando venue courtesy of Level 3. Panels throughout the day also addressed the latest developments in control-room technology, digital signage, scoreboard technology, wireless and handheld services, and the broadcaster-venue ecosystem.
