SIS LIVE Inks Deal With Astrium

UK outside broadcast and uplinking facilities company SIS LIVE has agreed to be an exclusive reseller and development contract with space technology and satellite distribution specialist Astrium. Joint development is already underway on what is claimed to be the first fully-automated flat plate antenna in the world.

Under the deal SIS LIVE’s R&D and manufacturing divisions will collaborate with Astrium on its continuing development work. Independently, SIS LIVE has produced a range of satellite uplinking products, including the uPod portable uplink and the uPak automated flat plate antenna.

The uPod can be packed into flight cases, each weighing less than 23kg, and combines an integral bookings system with its own satellite capacity. The uPak is a VSAT terminal designed to provide high-speed data connections for internet circuits, video transmission and VPN applications. The first versions will work in Ku-band but operation will be extended to take in Ka and X-bands.

Both uPod and uPak will be integrated into the Astrium range of MobilePatrol products. During Global MilSatCom at the beginning of this month Astrium introduced the MobilePatrol MPS450 terminal, a light, single-button operated system based on the uPak.

Commenting on the agreement David Meynell, managing director of SIS LIVE, says, “SIS LIVE has developed and built a number of innovative uplinking products. Astrium has a great heritage and capability in secure satcom systems and we’re fully confident that this agreement will benefit their customers across the world.”
