Venue News: AEG Reveals LA Stadium Design

A week after Tim Leiweke, president and CEO of AEG, formally laid out a timeline and proposal to build a $1 billion football stadium and events center in downtown Los Angeles, AEG revealed architectural renderings of the proposed venue from three design firms. The three firms were picked from an original field of nine and AEG will choose a design and work on the entitlement process with the City of Los Angeles within 30 days. AEG has hired ICON Venue Group, a project management firm that worked on Denver’s Invesco Field, to act as AEG’s representative in the process after working with the group to build the 02 Arena in London…

…The Premier League will not block Tottenham’s potential move to the Olympic Stadium after ruling that neither Spurs nor West Ham would be in breach of the organisation’s rules if they move to Stratford. Both clubs, competing to take on the stadium after the 2012 Olympics, sought clarification from the Premier League that there would be no barrier to relocation, and were told earlier this month that they would not face any objection. The Premier League’s ruling comes with negotiations between the two clubs and the Olympic Park Legacy Company, owners of the stadium, set to extend into the new year…

…A lawsuit has been filed challenging an initiative for a special taxing district to fund a sports arena on the Las Vegas Strip. Taxpayers for the Protection of Nevada Jobs, a group that includes MGM Resorts and Boyd Gaming Corp., filed the lawsuit this week in Carson City. It alleges fraud in the gathering of signatures. The measure would authorize a special taxing district in the Strip area, where an additional sales tax of 0.9 percent would be imposed to fund construction of the $448 million arena on land donated by Caesars Entertainment, formerly known as Harrah’s Entertainment.
