AP’s GVW To Provide Sports News From China’s CCTV

Sports news from China is now available to broadcasters around the world through a new syndication deal between the country’s state national television service, CCTV, and the Associated Press.

Under the deal, AP will carry news, sports coverage, and entertainment updates as part of its global video service. CCTV News Content became available on Jan. 1 over the news agency’s Global Video Wire (GVW) satellite network, which is taken by 90% of national and international broadcasters.

CCTV News Content will run 365 days a year and is currently transmitted four times a day, with feeds on GVW at 12:45-12:55 a.m., 5:20-5:30 a.m., 2:15-2:30 p.m., and 11:00-11:15 a.m. (all times are GMT).

Commenting on the new service, Nigel Baker, APTN VP of business operations for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, says, “APTN’s Corporate Services business is delighted to be able to distribute CCTV’s news feed. There is a growing appetite for news from China from around the world, and we are confident that this new feed will help meet that need.”

Cao Ri, director of CCTV’s international news department, adds, “CCTV News Content presents a developing, changing, and true China. It helps you to better understand the world from an Asian perspective and deepens understanding and trust among all countries.”
