NAB 2011: Harris, DaySequerra To Feature Products Based on DTS Technology

DTS audio-processing technology is part of Harris’s Selenio media-convergence platform, which sets a new standard in audio processing for contribution and distribution applications. Selenio hosts up to 28 channels of high-density baseband-video processing, supports both MPEG-2 and H.264 compression standards, and provides advanced audio capabilities, including 5.1 surround sound and loudness control. It is a modular solution that combines traditional baseband-video and audio processing, compression, and IP networking within a single, 3RU platform. By adding a plug-in sub-module to frame-sync, video-conversion, and audio-expansion modules, users can take advantage of advanced audio applications for DTS audio processing.

Other DTS-based Harris products to be exhibited at the NAB Show include DTS-HD Master Audio Suite v2.6 (with new low-bitrate DTS Express encode modes), DTS Neural Loudness Control (NLC), and DTS Neural Surround.

DaySequerra will introduce the M2DTV mobile-TV loudness control, designed to keep DTV audio content intelligible in noisy environments on small mobile devices. It has 5.1 surround, stereo, and EAS inputs and features DTS DownMix and two codec preprocessing channels, each optimized for 24 kbps, 32 kbps, 48 kbps, and 64 kbps to reduce artifacts from lossy compression schemes and low-bitrate transmission.

The new DaySequerra Eclipse digital radio processor is a four-stream AES stereo audio processor, specifically designed for HD radio and the HE-AAC v2 codec used in DAB and DRM digital radio. It features four completely independent, low-IMD audio-processing chains, and a proprietary perceptual loudness model developed by DTS.

DTS technology will also be featured in the DaySequerra NLC5.1, which measures and maintains desired audio-loudness levels simultaneously for 5.1 surround as well as a stereo program in a single-rack-space unit, using the industry-standard ITU-R BS.1770/1 as well as weighted Leq (a)-Leq (m). The DaySequerra NLC5.1ST then uses proprietary DTS Neural Loudness Control, an advanced perceptual loudness-leveling algorithm, to apply the appropriate gain or attenuation to maintain the broadcaster-defined loudness level.

DaySequerra’s four-channel Mono2Stereo synthesizer uses DTS Neural Technology’s proprietary algorithm developed to mono content into an artifact-free, wide soundstage with spectrally balanced stereo sound. Mono content is synthesized into stereo with width and depth information creating a convincing image often indistinguishable from original stereo content. Easily accessed user presets store settings of the Mono2Stereo’s four channel-dedicated “stereo width” controls, crossover frequency, high- and low-shelf filters, and audio limiter that can be recalled at the touch of a button.
