NAB’s Expansion into Tech Issues May Spell the End of MSTV

The final days of the Association for Maximum Service Television (MSTV) look to be at hand, as TVNewsCheck reports that the trade group’s board is expected to vote in favor of shutting down operations at a meeting on Wednesday in Washington.

During its 54 years of existence, MSTV has fought to ensure that the American public receives the highest quality, interference free, over-the-air local television signals. However, many feel the organization has become unnecessary following the NAB’s continued expansion into technical issues within the broadcasting industry.

For the past decade MSTV ha sled the way in the DTV transition in the U.S. and, most recently, has rallied against attempts by the FCC to reclaim a large chunk of broadcast spectrum to accommodate the growing demand for wireless broadband.
