NAB 2011: SGI Tackles File-Based Archiving

One year after acquiring COPAN’s MAID technology, SGI is introducing ArcFiniti to address the exploding problem of unstructured, file-based archiving. With this fully integrated platform, SGI can offer to the general IT market an easy-to-deploy system that leverages the company’s powerful tools for managing and protecting some of the world’s largest data repositories. The system enables high-performance network access into a disk-based archive system offering performance, accessibility, and long-term data-integrity advantages over tape. Leveraging patented technology to reduce power consumption and increase density, it comes in five configurations ranging from 156 TB to more than 1.4 PB of uncompressed usable storage in a single rack. Using patented software to proactively monitor the health of the hardware and the integrity of the data, ArcFiniti solves the problem of wondering whether archive data is even still valid and accessible years later.
