ESPN Launches ScoreCenter App on Windows Phone 7

ESPN has launched its ESPN ScoreCenter app on Windows Phone 7.  The app is already available on the iPhone/iPod touch and Android devices.

The ScoreCenter app, which was customized for Windows Phone 7 in collaboration with Microsoft, gives fans one-touch access to scores from hundreds of global leagues in more than 15 sports. ESPN ScoreCenter is powered by ESPN’s global scores database and allows users to set personalized favorites.

Since its launch in June 2009, ScoreCenter has been downloaded more than 13 million times across iPhone and Android devices. ESPN Mobile has also delivered nearly 3.5 billion alerts to users in 2010, up nearly 300% from 2009.  Additionally, ESPN’s mobile Web site is the leading mobile Web sports site and was the eighth-most-trafficked site on the mobile Web overall in 2010.  Last year, it averaged 12.4 million unique visitors a month, up 37% compared to the previous year.

“The success and popularity of our ScoreCenter app is the result of a simple equation: highly customizable personalized content with an intuitive interface,” said Jay Lee, senior director of product development, ESPN Mobile.  “Passionate sports fans want scores when they want it, wherever they want it, and it’s our goal to be on every possible mobile screen out there to deliver that content.  We’re proud to continue our strong relationship with Microsoft and are confident that fans will be pleased to have ScoreCenter on their Windows Phone 7 devices.”

ESPN and Microsoft’s ScoreCenter collaboration follows a content distribution deal signed in June 2010 that delivers ESPN3.com, VOD clips from ESPN.com, and other ESPN content to the Xbox LIVE platform on Xbox 360 consoles.

“Windows Phone 7 is backed by a dynamic developer ecosystem that is creating a variety of quality apps and games, like ESPN ScoreCenter, that take advantage of the phone’s unique features and design,” says Todd Brix, senior director, Windows Phone Marketplace, Microsoft Corp. “For example, ESPN ScoreCenter for Windows Phone 7 uses the device’s rich panorama experience to offer customers quick, easy access to video, live data play-by-play, game summaries, statistics and real-time scores from sports teams and leagues across the globe,” he continued.
