NAB Perspectives: Orad’s Dail Points to New Workflows

Shaun Dail, VP of North American sales for Orad, says the company’s latest tools continue a trend of using technology to help tell a better story. And the MVP graphics system, he says, is an excellent example.

“It’s important for broadcasters to look at reliability, the footprint in the truck the system requires, and the turnaround time it takes to tell the best story in the simplest way,” he says.

Along with MVP 3.0, visitors to the Orad booth can also check out RadioTV, a graphics platform that can help automate a radio studio. In addition to an IPTV studio, it has a graphics platform, and the camera will switch based on the audio, tracking the person speaking (if two people are speaking, it switches to a wide shot of the studio).

“It also has a virtual switcher and a graphics platform that can run a news ticker,” says Dail. The graphics and ticker allow for branding that can lead to some new revenues.

And for graphics, attendees can check out Maestro 6. “It’s an enterprise graphics system with its own [server], and it incorporates elements like a customizable GUI,” he says. Most important, it gives designers the power to change a look without a programmer.

“So, if the designer wants to create a graphic that, say, changes the color of a batting average from red to black if it goes from .350 to .349,” he adds, “the designer can write that rather than needing a programmer.”
