Jon Kropp To Head Up Turner Sports’ Golf Portfolio

Jon Kropp has been named to the newly-created role of vice president of business operations for the Turner Sports golf portfolio.

In his new role, Kropp will oversee all of the company’s golf digital businesses, which include GOLF.com, PGATOUR.COM and PGA.com, as well as a sales and content relationship with Yahoo! Sports Golf.  The three Turner Sports golf sites and Yahoo! Golf had a combined 121.4 million total visits in Q1 2011, 11 times the nearest competitor according to comScore.

Kropp, a 14-year Turner Sports veteran, most recently served as VP of strategy and acquisitions for Turner Sports, where he participated in the negotiation of many of the company’s current league relationships.  He also will continue to support Turner Sports’ PGA of America broadcast events including the PGA Championship and PGA Grand Slam of Golf, as part of the overall golf business.  Kropp is based in Atlanta and reports to Matthew Hong, SVP/GM of sports operations for Turner Sports. Gary Treater and Alex Vargas, who oversee business operations for PGA.com and PGATOUR.COM, respectively for Turner Sports, will now report to Kropp.

“Turner Sports represents the top brands in golf media, and consolidation of those brands under Jon’s leadership will lead to continued synergy and growth for the entire portfolio as well as each individual business,” says Hong.  “Jon has been a vital member of the Turner Sports executive team and brings the perfect mix of experience, management talent and innovative thinking to lead our combined golf efforts going forward.”

Prior to joining Turner Sports in 1997, Kropp worked as the director of development for the Institute for International Sport (Rhode Island). Kropp holds a masters in business administration, as well as a masters certificate in international sports business and economics from the Georgia Institute of Technology’s College of Management.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Bates College (Maine).
