ESPN’s Barclay’s Premier League Slate Off and Running

ESPN kicked off its season-long coverage of England’s Barclays Premier League in the U.S. this past weekend. Fulham faced Aston Villa at Craven Cottage in Saturday’s opening match at 9:30 a.m. ET on ESPN2, ESPN3.com and ESPN Deportes. ESPN’s lead soccer voice Ian Darke called the action with analyst Steve McManaman and on-site reporter Darrell Currie.

During the 2011-12 Barclays Premier League season, ESPN will televise up to 74 matches on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com, and ESPN Mobile TV. All matches will be televised live and in high definition. Most of the telecast windows are on Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m. and will include pre and post-match coverage from the stadiums. ESPN3.com and ESPN Deportes will also offer a handful of exclusive telecasts, including Everton vs. reigning league champion Manchester United on Saturday, Oct. 29 (6:55 a.m.), and on certain Monday afternoons. Matches will also be available via www.espnnetworks.com and the Watch ESPN App.

This is the third consecutive season ESPN is carrying BPL matches in the U.S. as part of a sub-license agreement with Fox Sports International. ESPN2 was also the English-language television home for the league’s Monday night matches in 1996–97 and 1997-98.
