Chyron Helps Newsrooms Respond to East Coast Quake

Immediately following the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the East Coast on Tuesday, newsrooms across the United States used Chyron’s cloud-based Axis World Graphics system for instant creation of maps for breaking news segments.

Within minutes of the quake, Axis World Graphics users created 15 maps illustrating activity, and within an hour, the total of static and animated maps created grew to 62. By 6 p.m. EDT, just over four hours after the earthquake struck, users had created 98 earthquake-related maps in Axis World Graphics, and by 10:30 p.m. EDT the graphics total reached 133.

“Axis World Graphics simplifies, streamlines, and speeds up the graphics creation process, giving news producers the tools to create striking visuals quickly and empowering them to take timely stories — such as the startling earthquake that shook the East Coast — to air quickly,” said Todd Martin, vice president of cloud services and partnerships at Chyron. “The high number of quake-related graphics created within just hours of the event demonstrates the enormous value this cloud-based solution brings to news organizations.”
