Encompass Digital Media Keeps Networks On the Air During Irene

Encompass Digital Media provided 24/7 remote site transmissions from North Carolina to Vermont to major U.S. and international broadcasters for breaking news coverage of Hurricane Irene by deploying seven of its transportable uplinks.

Encompass’ Waterfront switch in New York City provided its clients with fiber and satellite connectivity delivering over 100 feeds throughout the world. In addition, Encompass initiated 24/7 “hot standby” satellite uplink back-up network origination utilizing its Atlanta and Minneapolis Teleports for both major New York area networks and for the New York-based networks originated out of Encompass.

Encompass is uniquely positioned to provide these services with its Teleports located in Glenbrook, Stamford, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Burbank, and Los Angeles. All of the company’s locations are connected via the Global Interconnect, which allowed Encompass to utilize all of its facilities on a seamless basis meeting the extraordinary demand created by the largest tropical storm to hit the Northeast Coast of the U.S in nearly 75 years.

Encompass was able to service many of its international broadcasters through its facilities in London and Singapore providing first and last mile end-to-end connectivity from the U.S. to the international broadcasters.

The company’s elite scheduling, operations, and engineering teams collaborated with its clients to utilize its worldwide broadcast facilities to deliver seamless transmission services throughout this historic meteorological event. Although Irene has run her course, Encompass continues to bring footage of the destruction left in the storm’s wake.
