Sportvision Selects Joe Miller for VP of Engineering

Sportvision, an innovator of digital sports content and broadcast enhancements,  announced that Joe Miller has been named Vice President of Engineering.  In this role, Miller will be responsible for directing Sportvision’s engineering staff and managing a breadth of initiatives including data acquisition and management, real-time broadcast enhancement systems development, new media software development, software and hardware quality assurance, and emerging software and hardware development.  Miller will be based at the Company’s Mountain View, CA, facility, and will report to the Company’s CTO, Steve Zoppi.

Miller brings nearly 30 years of experience to Sportvision, having served in senior executive management positions for a diverse group of leading interactive, gaming and entertainment technology companies, and working with major consumer brands such as Linden Lab, LeapFrog, Apple, Atari, SegaSoft, SEGA of America, Koala Technologies, Epyx, and Convergent.

Prior to joining Sportvision, Miller was Vice President of Platform & Technology Development at Linden Research, the developer of Second Life, a large and profitable online 3-D virtual world, where users — in the form of avatars — can socialize, participate in activities, and interact with a global community of committed members.  Under his guidance, Miller grew the development and operations team from 20 to more than 200 engineers, and his leadership was instrumental in growing membership within this community from 180,000 users to an astounding 24 million users worldwide.

Before his stint at Linden Research, Miller founded Perilux Group, a product design company that was responsible for developing several award-winning products now offered by LeapFrog, Bright Things, and Apple.  Perilux Group was engaged by LeapFrog Enterprises to design, develop, and launch the Leapster Multimedia Learning System, which has received several industry leading awards.  In addition to being recognized as the co-inventor of the Leapster Multimedia Learning System, Miller was responsible for managing the design and creation of five launch titles under the Leapster umbrella.

“Joe has an established track record of success in developing and launching innovative applications designed to enhance consumer experiences, while also delivering unique b-to-b solutions on multiple platforms,” said Steve Zoppi, Chief Technology Officer, Sportvision. “As we continue to capture the complete digital record of sporting events, and develop innovative sports applications, Joe’s guidance, leadership, and expertise will be invaluable.”

Over his diverse career, Miller also held senior executive positions at SegaSoft and SEGA of America.  While serving as the EVP/CTO of Consumer Products and SVP of Product Development at SegaSoft and Sega of America, Miller was responsible for all North American hardware and software development, leading the technology and product development teams.  He was instrumental in creating separate business units for Sega Sports, Sega Music, and Sega Studios, and successfully planned and launched five new platforms for the company.

Additionally, Miller was the founder and CEO of the Knowledge Universe Interactive Studio, a company established to offer technology-based solutions and services to leading companies in the education and training marketplace.
