Gepco International Strengthens Product Offering at CCW 2011

Gepco International announced several new product developments at Content and Communications World Show (CCW) this week in New York City, including the addition of two new cables to its family of Hybrid Fiber Camera Cables. Both SMPTE 311M Compliant, these new cables designed for high-definition camera-to-CCU interconnects include the HDC920PEF Direct Burial 9.2mm Hybrid Fiber Cable and the HDC920HDG Heavy-Duty Glossy 9.2mm Hybrid Fiber Cable.

Built for permanent underground installation, the HDC920PEF is a 9.2mm hybrid fiber camera cable with a rugged polyethylene jacket and water blocking tape wrapped around the cable core. This construction is difficult to puncture and protects the core from moisture making it an ideal choice for outdoor events.

The HDC920HDG is a heavy-duty 9.2mm hybrid fiber camera cable with a glossy jacket designed to provide improved durability with a more pleasing cosmetic appearance. Made of black polyurethane, the outer jacket also provides the added benefit of not easily abrading or sticking when run in the field.

“These new hybrid fiber cables were designed based on feedback from customers, and their addition to our family of camera cables is another example of Gepco’s continued commitment to fulfilling the varied needs of the HDTV broadcast market,” said Joe Zajac, market development manager for Gepco Brand products.

Gepco has also introduced the new V-Light Active Fiber Cable System. Designed with easy-to-use copper connections, the V-Light Active Fiber Cable System offers the exceptional transmission distance of fiber without the hassle of keeping fiber optic connections clean.  Based on the Gepco Brand V-CON connector system, V-Light offers a convenient, reliable and durable interface for high-speed serial digital video transmission over single-mode fiber with data transfer rates up to 1.485 Gbps.

Inside each weather-tight V-Light connector shell, the fiber is sealed and isolated, while the electrical signal is converted to an optical one (or vice versa).  Constructed from hard-anodized aluminum for exceptional ruggedness, the V-Light Vonnector also features gold-plated and stainless-steel contacts to ensure corrosion resistance and mating life.

With signal transmission up to 10 kilometers, V-Light Active Fiber Cable Assemblies consist of an rugged and light-weight single-mode tactical fiber cable with V-Light connectors on each end. V-Light Cable Assemblies come in either two- or four-path versions and offer either uni-directional or bi-directional signal transmission.  Bi-directional transmission can be used with cameras requiring a return path (one camera for the two-path version, two cameras for the four-path version).

“This is a truly new, innovative design for the broadcast industry,” said Zajac. “The V-Light Active Fiber Cable System allows you to transmit your signal over fiber while eliminating all of the problems and anxiety of dealing with fiber optic connectors.  It’s as simple as connecting a BNC. With all the benefits of fiber and the ease of use of copper, we already anticipate an expansion of the V-Light system offerings.”

Gepco also has expanded Gepco Powered by MultiDyne line of fiber optic transport products. Strengthening its partnership with MultiDyne Video & Fiber Optic Systems, a premier provider of fiber optic-based video and audio transport solutions for broadcast and pro A/V applications, Gepco will offer four additions to its line of fiber optic transport products made by MultiDyne including the LiGHTBoX Weather-Tight Portable Fiber Field Acquisition System, GP-2000, GP-2500 and the GP-GE1000.

All products in the Gepco Powered by MultiDyne line are designed to convert an electrical signal to an optical one, allowing for much longer transmission distances, lower total weight of cabling and significant cost savings.

Built for field and harsh-environment applications, the GP-LB1400 LiGHTBoX is a weather-tight, portable fiber field acquisition system with multiple fiber transport solutions within one rugged case. The standard configuration includes fiber transport for video (HD-SDI and composite), audio (including mic level), data, and intercom and provides easy-access side-panel connections. The LiGHTBoX can be linked via tactical fiber cable to a mobile truck, control room or even another LiGHTBoX.  With its sturdy, weather-tight case and power monitoring system for AC or battery operation, the GP-LB1400 LiGHTBoX is ideal for ENG, sports, military and any field application where battery powered equipment is required.

Created for applications that demand high-quality video (12 bit), audio (24 bit) and data transmission over long distances, the GP-2000 and GP-2500 operate over a single fiber. The GP-2000, with a transmitter and receiver version, supports one composite video, six audio and two simplex data channels, while the GP-2500, a transceiver, supports one bi-directional composite video, eight bi-directional audio and two duplex data channels.

“The four new additions make Gepco Powered by MultiDyne a truly robust line of active fiber optic products allowing Gepco to further provide complete solutions to the broadcast and pro A/V markets,” said Zajac.
