Ikegami Showcases HDTV Production Equipment at CCW 2011

Ikegami is displaying advanced technologies designed for the production of HDTV and digital cinema content at this year’s HD World Conference and Exhibition. Products include the GFCAM HDS-V10 tapeless three-CCD HD ENG camcorder, GF Series HD decks, the economical HDK-77EC docking-style portable 1080i/720p HD multi-format HD CMOS camera, the 4/3-inch imager HDS-F90 tapeless multiformat digital HD cinematography camera, the compact HDL-51 POV camera, and many of Ikegami’s affordable, space-saving HD flat-panel LCD monitors.

Featuring full Avid NLE compatibility and advanced features such as Bluetooth for instant export of thumbnail clips directly to laptops for fast logging, metadata insertion, and other workflow advantages, Ikegami’s tapeless GFCAM HDS-V10 employs GFPAK media, a removable Flash-RAM cartridge with up to 128GB capacity and a convenient USB port for instant access to file-based video from laptop or desktop editing systems.

Newly introduced MLC (Multi Level Cell) technology adds economical GFPAKs with 64 and 128 GB Flash capacity and 10,000 times rewrite capability.  Users can also load Ikegami’s CF Adaptor with off-the-shelf CompactFlash Type I media for “plug-and-play” compatibility with the GFCAM slot.

The GFCAM HDS-V10 HD camcorder is part of Ikegami’s GF Series production solution, which employs MPEG-2 compression and the MXF file format for an open-codec HD/SD recording architecture. Ikegami’s GF Series production solution leverages the increasing integration of IT in broadcast and pro video environments to deliver unprecedented file-based HD workflow efficiencies extending from digital video capture, to non-linear editing, to final content delivery.

All video and metadata recorded with GFCAM has direct compatibility to all major Avid Technology nonlinear edit systems via Avid’s AMA (Avid Media Access) plug-in architecture for optimum production-workflow efficiencies. GFCAM is also compatible with Edius and Final Cut Pro editing systems.

GF Series components that can be used along with the GFCAM HDS-V10 HD camcorder to enhance productivity in a studio environment include Ikegami’s GFStation GFS-V10 Flash memory studio deck, GF Station Portable half-rack-wide portable player/recorder, and the GF Player desktop playback unit. GFSeries Media Manager software provides efficient management for recorded files by GF series products.

Native Dual-Format HD CMOS Studio/Field Camera
Meeting the demands of an increasingly varied HD market needing both 1080i and 720p video-capture capability is Ikegami’s HDK-77EC native multi-format HD CMOS portable studio and field camera. An economical docking-style portable multi-format HD camera with CMOS imaging sensors for dual-format flexibility and reduced power consumption and operating temperature, the HDK-77EC can be used with Ikegami’s CCU-890M camera control unit for built-in fiber or triax connectivity providing convenient, lightweight, mobile flexibility. Users can choose the type of camera cable with a simple switch at the CCU, combined with mounting the docking FA Fiber Adapter or TA Triax Adapter to the camera head.

Digital Cinematography
Responding to the increasing use of digital HD imaging for the production of theatrical movies and episodic TV, Ikegami will display the HDS-F90 4/3-inch optical format tapeless camcorder. Based on Ikegami’s GFCAM, the HDS-F90 employs a 4K CMOS sensor with Bayer filter for high-resolution motion-image capture and horizontal and vertical MTF (modulation transfer function, a measure of picture sharpness) with over-sampling in the green channel and 24p/25p/30p native recording. The HDS-F90 uses same media as GFCAM. The camera is designed to accept large format PL-Mount lenses for film-style high-aperture, shallow depth-of-focus cinematography.

HD Capture in Challenging Locations
Compact, advanced, and designed for use as an HD POV (“point-of-view”) camera for broadcast traffic/weather, goalpost sports, and for mounting on robotic pan-tilt-zoom studio systems is the HDL-51 one-piece full-digital native multi-format HDTV camera. Part of Ikegami’s HDL-50 series of POV cameras designed for capturing superb broadcast-quality HD from unmanned and/or inaccessible locations, the HDL-51 employs three newly developed 2.5 Mega-pixel CMOS sensors for native multi-format HD operation, the HDL-51 provides 1080/60i, 1080/24p, and 720/60p video directly from the camera head.

A motorized remote-controllable ND filter wheel and electric color-correction filter enables the HDL-51 to operate in a wide range of lighting conditions. An image-flip capability enables the HDL-51 to be used in 3-D rigs. An HS (high speed) version of the HDL-51 is also available, providing 1080/60p HD video output.

HD Monitoring
Ikegami’s space-saving HD flat-panel LCD monitors displayed at HD World range from the cost-effective HLM-904WR and HLM-1704WR multi-format 9- and 17-inch models, to the “50” Series multi-format HD Grade-One displays, which provide a wide critical viewing angle, built-in vector and waveform display, and full 1920 x 1080 resolution.

A 9-inch HD/SD multiformat LCD color monitor, the HLM-904WR is designed for HD monitoring in confined spaces such as mobile production vehicles, compact control rooms, and small edit suites. A dual-rack-mountable 16:9 monitor, the HLM-904W provides many of the features of the HLM-1704WR and supports AC, DC, and battery operation for maximum mobility and use in any production environment.

The 17-inch HLM-1704WR HD/SD multiformat LCD color monitor provides reduced thickness, power consumption, and weight, and it accepts a wide range of input sources (automatically identifying each), including two HD-/SD-SDI inputs and one analog composite input. Embedded audio compatibility, remote-control functions, built-in markers and test signals, time code, waveform, and vector scope display functions, stereo speakers, and many other features make the HLM-1704WR a versatile 16:9 monitoring solution for a wide range of production applications.

Ikegami “50” Series monitors include the HLM-3250W (32-inch), HLM-2450W (24-inch), and HLM-1750WR (17-inch) models, all of which feature accurate color and gamma reproduction, embedded audio-level metering, time code reader display, and optional 3G-SDI inputs.
