NAC Sells First Hi-Motion IIs

NAC Image Technology has sold its first Hi-Motion II ultra slo-mo units to Fletcher Chicago for use on NBC’s Sunday Night Football and ESPN’s Monday Night Football, amongst other programming, in a deal worth approximately $3.5m.

Manufacture of the cameras starts in January, with the order expected to be completely fulfilled by the end of Q2 next year.

“They’ll also be put out on basketball and golf, and the reason we can do golf easily with the new camera is a) it’s handheld and b) it can run independent of connection to a truck via RF,” comments Andy Hayford, International Sales Manager at NAC Image Technology.

Hayford says that response to a global tour of the prototype has been extremely positive. 20 of the original Hi-Motion I units were manufactured, but with the previous (largely) rental model now being replaced by direct sales, the H-M II is expected to far surpass that.

“The market for the cameras and the demand from producers to use extreme slo-mo has expanded hugely,” says Hayford. “When we started on the road with H-M I there were a handful of hi-speed cameras in the world in total. Now there are in excess of 60 out in the wild from all manufacturers, and our view is that there is definite room for growth, especially ahead of the major events of 2012.”
