SVG Veterans in Production Ready To Serve

The Sports Video Group today begins an initiative that will help veterans of the American military more easily begin a career in sports broadcast and production by exposing them to job opportunities, mentors via current veterans in the industry, and more.

Known as SVG Veterans in Production (VIP), the group will comprise current sports-production and -broadcast professionals who served our nation and employers who are looking for new talent.

“The sports-production industry is hungry for new talent, and many of today’s new veterans have skill sets in electronics, wireless systems, IT-based infrastructures, and more that translate well to a career in the sports industry,” says SVG Editorial Director Ken Kerschbaumer, who is spearheading the effort along with a committee of SVG Advisory Board members. “But many of those veterans are unaware of the opportunities. Our goal is to close that information gap, help connect them with potential employers, and more.”

It is also believed that the passage of a new Senate bill that provides tax breaks of up to $9,600 for private employers who hire veterans could help spur interest in providing employment for those who have served.

In the coming weeks, the SVG will begin to formalize the program and its advisory board. A new Website will be launched to promote the initiative, allow veterans to submit résumés  for job consideration, and also allow military veterans currently involved in production share information about how they began their career, advice to job seekers, and more.

Current miliary veterans in the industry interested in becoming part of the new group (it is open to all veterans involved in production of sports content) should e-mailKerschbaumer at [email protected].
