Grass Valley Brings Latest Technology Advances to 2011 InterBEE Conference

At the 2011 International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition (InterBEE), Grass Valley will highlight its latest high-definition (HD) tools and technologies for streamlining file-based workflows to save time and effort. This year’s InterBEE will be held Nov. 16–18, at the Makuhari Messe International Conference Complex in Chiba City, near Tokyo, Japan.

The Grass Valley exhibit stand (#7519) will include many new technologies, such as the new KarreraVideo Production Center switcher and new K2 Edge automated, multichannel, integrated playout solution. Also on display will be the LDK 8300 HD Super SloMo camera system, the K2 Dyno Replay System, the T2 intelligent digital disk recorder (iDDR), EDIUS multiformat editing software, the ADVC series of signal format video converters, and the Grass Valley MEDIAEDGE LEB Pro real-time H.264 encoder.

“Broadcasters and video production professionals need reliable and highly flexible technology that helps them do their job better and more efficiently and that’s what we are showing this year,” said Jeff Rosica, Executive Vice President of Grass Valley. “This will be the first chance for our customers in this region to see the new Karrera switcher and K2 Edge playout server, so we’re excited to get their feedback. We think this year’s InterBEE show will be a very positive experience for everyone in attendance.”

Introduced at the recent IBC Show in Amsterdam, the Karrera Video Production Center switcher incorporates the upscale features of its predecessors, the Kayenne and Kayak switchers, while providing a cost-effective, entry-level path to these highly acclaimed switchers that have become de facto standard among the worldwide live and studio production communities. The Karrera is available in 1-2.5 M/E channels in a 4 RU frame and 2-4.5 M/Es in an 8 RU frame. The system is a fully digital 10-bit 4:2:2 video switcher with up to 96 inputs and 48 outputs.

The new K2 Edge integrated playout solution is a robust and proven Linux-based system with a purpose-built, high-availability architecture for mission-critical 24/7 playout applications. It is available in three levels of capability: K2 Edge Express, for entry level channels with minimal graphics needs; K2 Edge Pro, for main-line channels with more sophisticated graphics such as picture-in-picture; and K2 Edge Elite systems, which offer switching for up to four HD sources and multichannel 2D and 3D graphics complete with DVE moves including credit squeeze. Customers can easily migrate, via a software license, to any of the levels of capability within the K2 Edge range.
