Campus Clips: Kentucky-Maryland to Meet In First College Hoops Game at Barclays Center; Big West Lands 10-Game ESPN3 Package

Brooklyn’s Barclays Center is still under construction but it’s slate of college basketball games has already begun to take shape. Nets CEO Brett Yormark and minority owner Bruce Ratner announced at a Wednesday morning press conference that the University of Kentucky will inaugurate the Barclays Center’s college basketball schedule in November 2012. Kentucky will square off against Maryland in a four-team tournament with Brooklyn-based Long Island University battling Moorehead State in the other matchup. ESPN will broadcast the tourney, dubbed the Barclays Center Classic on one of its networks (network to be determined)…

…The Big West Conference will launch a new ten-game distribution package on ESPN3 beginning Friday, Nov. 25 with the University of Hawai‘i at Cal State Fullerton women’s volleyball match at 7 p.m. PST. In addition to the opening women’s volleyball match, this year’s package will include two baseball, two men’s basketball, two women’s basketball, and two softball games.  The addition of games on ESPN3 extends ESPN’s current five-year deal with the Big West, which continues through the 2012-13 season…

…Seattle University announced a partnership with ROOT SPORTS to broadcast three Seattle men’s basketball games from KeyArena during the 2011-12 season. ROOT SPORTS will broadcast this Saturday’s home opener between Seattle and San Francisco on a tape-delayed basis beginning at 4 p.m., after the conclusion of a football game between Washington and Oregon State. The station will pick up live broadcasts of the Dec. 1 game against Stanford and the Dec. 21 contest against Virginia, both starting at 7 p.m., with the possibility of adding a fourth game later in the season…

…The Patriot League released its 2011-2012 men’s basketball television schedule.
