LTS Showcase Preview: A Roundup of Exhibitor Offerings, Part 2

The 2011 League Technology Summit is fast approaching, and SVG will have more exhibitors on the Technology Showcase floor than ever before. In the weeks leading up to LTS, we will be highlighting the new products and latest technologies that will be on display at the New York Hilton Dec. 13.

AJA Video Systems
AJA’s new Thunderbolt-enabled Io XT portable, compact capture-and-playback solution offers the power of KONA desktop systems. Io XT uses the 10-Gbps available bandwidth on the latest Thunderbolt-enabled Macs to deliver true desktop-level performance to MacBook Pro, enhancing the quality and speed of user workflow.

The company will also showcase the FS2 dual independent 3G/HD/SD up/down/cross video-frame synchronizers, along with dual 16-channel audio processors. The FS2 is a universal frame synchronizer and format converter with two independent channels that support virtually any input or output. FS2 can be used as two separate frame synchronizers/converters, or channels can be combined in a variety of ways — all within a single, compact 1RU form factor — to support a wide range of workflows.

Avid
Avid will feature its Media Composer editing systems, which deliver a powerful editing toolset, fast file-based workflow, and interoperation with a wide array of third-party I/O devices and applications.

The InGame complete video-production workgroup and archive solution for team marketing will also be on display. It incorporates Avid editing, real-time storage, production-asset management, graphics, and archive and features a short ramp-up time, with services, training, and support included.

Avid Motion Graphics delivers next-generation graphics and full 3D animation for broadcast sports, teams, and venues. Interplay asset management consolidates widespread assets to a common archive so that every clip, every play, and every shot is instantly at hand, production teams are coordinated, and media can be harnessed more efficiently to build fan loyalty and new revenue streams.

EditShare
EditShare offers a collection of purpose-built broadcast solutions that power a wide range of sports-production workflows. Its scalable XStream and Energy shared-storage systems facilitate media sharing for popular non-linear editing systems, with unique project sharing for Avid and Apple Final Cut Pro users.

Asset-management solution Flow offers advanced media-management capabilities that facilitate interoperability among both EditShare and non-EditShare systems. From a standard desktop system, users can search and retrieve assets from EditShare storage and archives, manage file-based ingest from P2 and XDCAM, and “edit while capture.” Designed to manage multicamera coverage, EditShare Geevs controls up to 16 channels of ingest and playback from a single interface. Slo-mo, instant replays can be controlled and highlights playlists created from the dedicated Geevs Sports Controller.

Elemental Technologies
Elemental Technologies will showcase the functionality of both Elemental Live and Elemental Server.

Elemental Live is a video-processing system that provides professional content producers and distributors with video and audio encoding for live streaming to new-media platforms. Elemental Server is a file-based video-processing system that provides fast, high-quality video transcoding for multiscreen video applications. Both systems merge the benefits of massively parallel hardware with the flexibility and forward compatibility of intelligent software, giving unmatched price/performance for video compression.

The company will demonstrate the speed of Elemental Server, which was recently tapped for ESPN’s on-demand video for iPhone, iPad, and Android apps and Website. With Elemental Server, a single file can be run at five times real time or multiple files can be run simultaneously at real time.

Grass Valley
Grass Valley’s advanced live high-definition production solutions continue to be the “go-to” technology among mobile-production companies, capturing and producing high-profile sporting events both in the U.S. and around the world. The company will exhibit its latest HD midsize production switcher, the Karrera Video Production Center, along with its new 3G Transmission system, which provides the perfect complement to the Grass Valley LDK Series of multiformat HD cameras and enables production companies to achieve the highest-quality results at venues prewired for either fiber or triax.

Other products on display will include Telecast Fiber Systems’ Cobra II, which permits extension of the industry’s new digital triax-based camera chains using simple, inexpensive fiber-optic cable.

The CopperHead 3000 Series is the newest addition to the CopperHead family of camera-mountable fiber-optic transceivers. Two in the series will be on display: the CopperHead 3200 and the CopperHead 3400.

Telecast’s T-POV family of fiber-optic links for robotic cameras delivers the established functionality of the company’s original HD/POV solutions, plus the option of Ethernet control, enclosed in small ruggedized housings at a new lower price.

The Studio – B&H
The Studio – B&H will be showcasing a production flypack featuring solutions from Newtek, Grass Valley, Cinedeck, Blackmagic Designs, Teranex, and Tektronix. Also on display will be a Panasonic ENG/EFP camera.

The Tiffen Co.
Tiffen Dfx v3 creative digital-effects software is now compatible with Avid 64-bit systems, Media Composer, and Symphony v6.0, as well as with NewsCutter v10.0. In addition to 64-bit, the updated Dfx v3 plug-in boasts enhanced filter control and adds support for 16 Sony camera models.

The compact Lowel Blender’s twin arrays of dimmable daylight- and tungsten-colored high-output LEDs can quickly be mixed to achieve just the right color blend to match a mixed-light-source location environment. This can provide flattering fill light that looks balanced with the rest of the shot.

Tiffen’s 77-mm Variable Neutral Density (VND) optical filter offers the convenience of several neutral-density filters in one filter. The VND is aimed at the photography and DSLR video market and provides two to eight stops of light control within a 9-mm ring.
