Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic To Launch SportsTalk Live

Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic will launch SportsTalk Live, hosted by former Redskins star Brian Mitchell and Ivan Carter, on Monday, Jan. 23. The new live half-hour sports talk and entertainment program, which is modeled after NBC Sports Network’s NBC SportsTalk, will air weeknights at 10:30 p.m., with encores at 12:30 a.m.

SportsTalk Live will feature a fast-paced, topical format that will draw on the hosts’ personalities to deliver opinionated commentary, in-depth analysis, and lively debate surrounding the day’s top regional and national stories covered by Geico SportsNet Central. The live, 30-minute show will include several multiplatform components, utilizing the network’s digital and social media properties to engage viewers and create an interactive experience. The network’s full stable of reporters, analysts, and writers will also contribute to the discussion, as will talent from across all of NBC Sports Group’s properties.

“The combination of two dynamic hosts, along with our knowledgeable experts, an engaged audience and the powerful brand of NBC Sports, will result in a very entertaining and informative experience for fans,” said Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic Senior Vice President and General Manager Rebecca Schulte. “This high-energy opinion and debate show will be a perfect complement to our comprehensive lineup of regional sports news, entertainment and live-game programming.”

In its continued integration as part of the NBC Sports Group, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic is modeling SportsTalk Live after NBC Sports Network’s nightly NBC SportsTalk show, which launched on Sept. 8 and is hosted by former Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic anchor and reporter Russ Thaler. Although the format and content will be original, SportsTalk Live will adopt branding, creative and other elements from the national program, including the logo, graphics, and music.

SportsTalk Live and NBC SportsTalk are under the banner of NBC SportsTalk, NBC’s successful digital franchise on NBCSports.com that includes ProFootballTalk, HardballTalk, ProBaskteballTalk, ProHockeyTalk, CollegeFootballTalk, and GolfTalkCentral. The successful franchise was recently extended to NBC Sports Group’s regional networks’ digital properties, including Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic’s CSNwashington.com and CSNbaltimore.com. The comprehensive regional sports platforms now feature CapitalsTalk, RedskinsTalk, RavensTalk, WizardsTalk, and NationalsTalk, which contain interactive content and continually updated postings from the network’s digital and on-air talent.

Mitchell is a longtime contributor to Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic’s coverage of the Washington Redskins. He won a Super Bowl with the Redskins in 1992 and was inducted into the team’s ‘Ring of Fame’ in 2009.

Carter spent more than two-and-a-half years as the host of Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic’s daily talk show, Washington Post Live, which concluded on Dec. 30 after nearly five years. Previously, he served as a sports reporter for The Kansas City Star, covering the Kansas City Chiefs and a variety of major sporting events for six years.
