Adtec Digital Facilitates RumJungle Media’s Expansion to MPEG 4

RumJungle Media, an award winning production company in Mound, MN, has chosen Adtec Digital’s high definition DSNG/contribution encoder/modulator, and multi-CODEC ultra-low, low and normal delay MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 high definition IRD devices to expand their current service offerings.

“When CBS requested we use MPEG-4 for the Iowa Caucuses, we began to look into several options for upgrading our encoders,” explains Robin Mahle, production manager for RumJungle Media. “Our EIC at the time, Chad Mayer, had heard about Adtec on the SNG forum, and a lot of the operators there had favorable reviews.  Our goal was to be able to fulfill our clients’ transmission needs using the Adtec EN-91 encoders.”

The EN-91 supports high definition and standard definition MPEG 4 AVC/H.264 video with 4:2:0 and 4:2:2 Chroma sampling, boasting up to eight pairs of audio, We pass, TimeCode, Captions, Teletex, AFD and more as standard features.  Paired with the RD60 receiver, the EN-91 can deliver HD-SDI with end-to-end delays of only 100 milliseconds with no dedicated fiber link needed like Motion JPEG. Both the EN-91 and RD-60 are fully interoperable with leading third-party receivers and encoders.

The EN-91 and RD60 pairing is proving successful for RumJungle.  “We recently we used our Adtec encoders for a Rick Santorum interview on Fox News Sunday. We were able to supply an HD feed using only 6MHZ of bandwidth,” comments Mahle, “which is a really great selling point since it allows our clients to save money on satellite space.”

“Our EIC is very satisfied with all the product functions,” continues Mahle. “Dollar to dollar, the Adtec encoders are the best in the business. They are almost half the price of some of the competitor encoders with the same enabled keys. Furthermore, the 16 channel audio is a highly appealing function of the new encoders. The computer interface is simple, and our users love the tips on the screen that allow them to get a quick reference of what every function does.”

The new encoders have allowed RumJungle Media to increase their 2-path truck to 4-path. “I believe these new encoders will help us to secure more work now, and into the future,” she adds.

Adtec Digital will be showcasing both the EN-91 and RD60 at Satellite 2012 in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C., March 12-14, 2012, in booth 1730.  Senior Vice President of Sales, Kevin Ancelin, will be hosting a press conference “The Myth of AVC long Latency – BUSTED” on Tuesday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m.  All media is invited to attend.
