NAB 2012: Adtec Digital To Debut EN-20
Adtec Digital will debut the EN-20, an HD/SD dual-service SDI MPEG 2 encoder with ASI, IP and optional up-converted QAM outputs. The EN-20 provides two HDSDI inputs making it ideal for broadcast as well as professional applications.
“We are pleased to introduce the EN-20 as a complement to our YUV2QAM and mediaHUB-HDPro distribution solutions,” states Kevin Ancelin, SVP sales for Adtec Digital. “The EN20 is positioned to deliver two broadcast quality MPEG 2 HD or SD services with Dolby audio encode and passthrough support. Like all Adtec compression solutions, the EN20 supports all the VBI services required for real broadcast applications but does so at a professionally targeted price point. The dual channel capability, Dolby and VBI support as well as its flexibility, including Adtec’s known quality, reliability and ease of use, will attract broadcast, MSO, private cable and professional users globally to the EN20.”
Features of the EN-20 include dual-service HD and SD video encoding ASI, IP and optional up-converted QAM outputs and broadcast level VBI support. The EN-20 is compliant with the ATSC A69 Program and System Information Protocol (PSIP) with optional support of Adtec’s DTV Guide Cloud PSIP service. The device automatically detects the video standard on each of its HDSDI inputs then encodes and multiplexes the signals into a multiple program transport stream with either DVB or ATSC tables. Closed captioning, AFD, and other VBI services are supported including 608 to 708 caption up-conversion. An Emergency Alert (EAS) input is also included with triggering via GPI, Serial or Ethernet.
For cable television applications, the unit modulates the signal using QAM Annex A or B and up-converts the multiplexed transport services on one carrier frequency (6-7-8 MHz) for distribution via HFC networks; the RF characteristics of the EN-20 are MSO compliant including excellent MER performance. For non-RF applications, the EN-20 delivers ASI (75 Ohm source per EN500083-9) and GigE (UDP or RTP in either two SPTS or one MPTS route).
Controlling and monitoring the EN-20 is easy using the integrated front panel keypad and LCD and the built-in web server for browsers.
