Campus Clips: Sam Houston State’s Bearkat Sports Network Reaches Milestone; NJCAA TV Sets Record Monthly Numbers

Sam Houston State’s Bearkat Sports Network will reach a milestone today as Tuesday’s baseball broadcast between Sam Houston State and Texas A&M will mark the 300th live video broadcast in the network’s history.  To celebrate the occasion, the game will be streamed for free. Bearkat Sports Network (BSN) began streaming live Sam Houston State games on Jan. 8, 2008, with a men’s basketball game against Nicholls State. The first game was a single camera feed being streamed through a laptop. In four years since, it has expended to a multi-camera broadcast with graphics, replays and commercials. BSN is almost a completely student-run production that is overseen by the Sports Information Department…

…NJCAA TV, the online video network of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), set a single-month record in March for unique visitors on the iHigh.com platform. NJCAA TV totaled over 48,000 unique visitors and 1.3 million visits overall during its live coverage of seven national championship events. For March, NJCAA TV provided live coverage of its swimming and diving national championships as well as six national basketball tournaments. In all, there were over 130 live broadcasts tied to these seven events that produced a viewership total just shy of 400,000. Since its move to the iHigh.com platform in August of 2011, NJCAA TV has yielded over 3.6 million visitors. Along with its 1.3 million visits in March during its winter championship coverage the site also had over 877,000 visits in November of 2011 from coverage of the organization’s fall championships…

…The GoDaddy.com Bowl will continue to match teams from the Sun Belt Conference and the Mid-American Conference for at least six more seasons. Bowl President Jerry Silverstein, MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher, and Sun Belt Commissioner Karl Benson announced the four-year extension at a news conference on Monday.
