Broadcast Sports, Inc. Goes For Triple Crown at Belmont Stakes

On Saturday, June 9, Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, I’ll Have Another, will attempt to make horseracing history at the Belmont Stakes as he and jockey Mario Gutierrez strive to become the first Triple Crown winners in 37 years.

Broadcast Sports, Inc. (BSI) will be there, helping NBC tell the story of this much anticipated event with over six hours of compelling, live coverage from throughout the venue. As the story evolves throughout the day, BSI’s wireless cameras and microphones will be taking viewers at home along the exciting and emotional journey from the stable to the winner’s circle.

“The Triple Crown is the pinnacle achievement in thoroughbred horse racing and BSI is proud to partner with NBC to provide comprehensive, up-close coverage of this historic race” says Peter Larsson, BSI’s co-founder and general manager. “With all the activity and excitement leading up to and including the race itself, covering this event requires us to be in multiple locations around Belmont Park at once. That’s where BSI’s experience and innovative technologies really make the difference. We provide flexible and reliable wireless systems that go where the story goes.”

A leading developer and service provider of wireless camera, audio and communication systems, BSI is getting ready to celebrate its own “triple crown,” having recently played a key role in NBC’s live broadcast of the Preakness in Baltimore, Maryland, and the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Kentucky.

At the Belmont, BSI will once again provide the RF infrastructure and wireless technology that has brought an exciting new depth to NBC’s sports coverage. Utilizing BSI’s Intelligent Diversity Distributed Receive System, NBC will immerse viewers in the total experience, with live footage at track level and across the grounds, including the barns, paddock, betting windows, high profile seating areas, jockey locker room and the winner’s circle.

BSI will deploy the powerful system with multiple RF over fiber receive sites throughout the grounds supporting the wireless control and signal reception of five HD digital mobile camera links, five UHF wireless camera control systems, one SteadiCam rig, 12 wireless microphones, one gate-mounted HD wireless camera link, seven IFBs, and one HD POV wireless helmet camera. A crew of six BSI technicians will install and support all of the systems from one of BSI’s thirteen 53-foot RF production mobile units and manage frequency coordination and licensing in the crowded broadcast airspace.
