Brian Monihan Promoted to President of Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia

Brian Monihan has been promoted to President of Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. The announcement was made earlier today by Jon Litner, Group President of NBC Sports Group. Monihan joined the network in 2009 as Senior Vice President and General Manager.

“Brian is an experienced television executive whose leadership and operational skills have fortified Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia as the definitive voice for sports fans in the region,” said Litner. “During his tenure, the network has experienced strong growth, serving Philadelphia sports fans with award-winning game coverage and compelling digital content.”

“It’s a tremendous honor to lead the talented group at Comcast SportsNet as they deliver exceptional news and live game programming to the Philadelphia sports fan,” said Monihan. “We will continue to look for new and exciting ways to incorporate the latest technology, mobile applications and social media to give our viewers the news and information they want, when they want it, wherever they may be.”

During Brian’s tenure at Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, the network has experienced strong growth both on-air and online, garnering all-time ratings records for both the Flyers and Phillies and driving web site growth to more than 600% in unique visits and video streams during the last couple years.  Brian also spearheaded the launch of pregame programs for all the Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, Phillies, and Sixers and secured a multi-year broadcasting deal with the Philadelphia Union.

Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, which along with The Comcast Network has been awarded 29 Emmy Awards since 2009, won its first National Edward R. Murrow Award in 2012 for the documentary “Remembering Richie,” an inspiring story on a Philadelphia-area native who lost his life on September 11, 2001.

Monihan is active in the community having won the 2011 Face Off for a Cure MVP from Autism Speaks and the National Hockey League.  He also serves on the Advisory Committee for the Comcast SportsNet Shining Star Awards benefitting the March of Dimes.

Monihan is a 1983 graduate of Boston College and resides in Moorestown, NJ, with his wife and four children.
