Televisa Leverages FOR-A Equipment for London Olympics Coverage

Mexico City-based television network Televisa utilized FOR-A’s equipment to bring coverage of the Summer Games to the broadcaster’s extensive audience. One of the largest programming networks in the world, Televisa relied on FOR-A’s FRC-8000 Frame Rate Convertersto transmit footage to its viewers in the United States and Mexico.

During the London Games, Televisa used the International Broadcast Center’s (IBC) on-site media complex and broadcaster hub to capture all of the events. Ten FRC-8000 HD/SD multi-format frame rate converters were used to convert footage from the European PAL standard to the U.S. and Mexico NTSC standard. The FRC-8000 frame converter includes: up/down/cross converter functions, motion compensation processing and automatic scene cut detection.

Televisa acquired FOR-A’s FRC-8000 solutions for its Summer Games coverage from Mexico-based manufacturer Excelencia en Comunicaciones. “We have worked with Televisa for many years and provided them with many frame rate conversion solutions,” said Jorge Castaneda, President of Excelencia de Comunicaciones, “The fact that they chose FOR-A’s equipment for such an important event demonstrates how much trust Televisa has in the quality that FOR-A equipment provides.”

This isn’t the first time that Televisa has turned to FOR-A technology. The network has a long-standing history with the company and has used a variety of FOR-A production switchers, video processors, and frame rate converters in the past. Televisa has often relied on FOR-A’s FA-9500 3G/HD/SD Multi Purpose Signal Processor, and is currently using FRC-8000 frame rate converters in two of its facilities.

“FOR-A is thrilled to have played a part in Televisa’s coverage of the most anticipated sporting event of the year,” explained Alfredo Cabrera, FOR-A’s Latin America sales manager. “The FRC-8000 offers the network a cost-effective, dependable conversion solution. We’re confident that our product greatly benefitted their operations, enabling a seamless broadcast of the Summer Games.”
