Only a stone’s throw away from Universal Studios and the center of Hollywood’s influential creative community, Panasonic Hollywood Labs are the corporation’s fast-track into Tinsel Town. Working with the entertainment industry’s heavy hitters, Panasonic has led the way in 3D technology development, a market estimated to be worth $60bn by 2020, and is now seeking to expand 3DTV applications into other industries. NeuroTracker, immersive 3D mental training, is being showcased at the 3D Innovation Center at Panasonic’s Hollywood Labs, where the Japanese Corporation’s newest and most innovative technology and content is on display. Adapting their Viera 3DTV for use with NeuroTracker software represents Panasonic’s first steps into the mental training industry.
“The growth of the 3D industry is not confined to Hollywood film-making,” says Ron Martin, Vice President at Panasonic Hollywood Labs, “NeuroTracker represents the expanding possibilities for immersive 3D applications beyond entertainment.”
Neurotracker is already being used in pro teams across the NFL, NHL and European soccer and rugby leagues for attention and decision-making training. Advanced systems are also used by the US Special Forces and for clinical research. Through their collaboration with CogniSens Athletics, distributor of NeuroTracker, Panasonic aims to bring this technology to the amateur sports and healthcare markets in a compact, sleek and affordable package.
“Until now, our larger advanced system was used by athletic, military and healthcare institutions, but not by individual consumers,” says Jean Castonguay, CogniSens Athletics, “working with Panasonic we are breaking new ground in hi-tech and affordable 3D applications, bringing cutting edge mental training to the individual.”
At Panasonic Hollywood Labs It’s not uncommon to see an A-list director drop by to talk tech, before availing themselves of screening rooms large and small. Along with the 3D Innovations Center it is recognized as being at the cutting edge of 3D technology and content development. With NeuroTracker’s inclusion in their technology showcase, Panasonic are continuing their mission to bring accessible 3D technologies to consumers.
Martin is optimistic about the future, “It’s only a matter of time before 3D technology becomes an essential part of, not only entertainment, but health, fitness and education as well.”
