Speakers Announced for SVG’s Sports Venue Technology Summit

SVG’s Sports Venue Technology Summit travels to Miami next month for an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at Marlins Park, followed by an afternoon of informative panels and case studies. Speakers include broadcast representatives from Miami’s major sports teams, stadium integrators, technical experts, and more.

Miami Marlins personnel will be on hand to introduce attendees to a venue described as the first “new-era” ballpark. The presentation, slated to take place behind home plate, features the Marlins’ Larry Blocker, director of Game Presentation & Events; Brendan Cunningham, SVP, Partnership Sales; and David Enriquez, director, Information Technology.

A series of afternoon panels kicks off with a look at producing content for screens of all sizes. Led by conference Chairman Rick Price, the panel features Blocker, joined by Ed Filomia, senior director of broadcast services for The Heat Group, and
Bryan Lykins, director of broadcast engineering for the Miami Dolphins.

Filomia will also present the day’s first case study, inviting attendees on a live virtual tour of American Airlines Arena’s digital signage and video walls. Later in the day, University of Washington Senior Associate Director of Athletics O.D. Vincent will be joined by Venue Research and Design Managing Partner Robert D. Jordan to present a case study on the Husky Stadium renovations.

The second session, “Ensuring the Connected Fan Experience,” will discuss the topical issues of distributed antenna systems, WiFi networks, and in-venue RF connectivity. Gene Arantowicz, senior director of business development, Cisco Sports and Entertainment, and
Louis Libin, president of Broad Comm, will offer the technical perspective, and Miami Dolphins VP of Information Technology Tery Howard will speak to the NFL point of view.

The day concludes with a look to the future: in particular, what the future holds for control-room design, broadcast infrastructures, and sports venues as a whole. Jeffrey Volk, director, Alpha Video Sports & Entertainment Group, who will also take part in the Marlins Stadium presentation, will be joined by Josh Beaudoin, director, Public Assembly and Large Venue Projects, WJHW; Scott Nardelli, SVP, Sales and Marketing, Bexel; and Richard Threadgill, director, Sports Market Development, Grass Valley.

Additional speakers are forthcoming, so be sure to check out the Venue Technology Summit site for updated information.
