In a shakeup of Boston-area athletic departments, Imry Halevi has been named the Director of Multimedia and Production for Harvard Athletics, a position that is the first of its kind in The Ivy League.

Halevi, who started in his new role yesterday, will direct all video efforts within the structure of the Harvard Athletic Communications Department. Halevi comes to Harvard from Northeastern University where he most recently served as an Associate Director of Video Production.

“It was clear from the outset that Imry presents a unique combination of expertise in emerging technologies and live event production,” says Kurt Svoboda, Assitant Athletic Director at Harvard University. “Harvard is a global brand with a fascinating tradition and history of prominence in the athletics realm. The athletic department aims to further the educational experience of our students through participation while building community and pride throughout the institution. We can extend our mission through today’s vast multimedia capabilities and we are fortunate to have Imry leading our future initiatives.”

“I’m excited about using technology and multimedia innovation to showcase Harvard’s great athletics tradition and history,” says Halevi. “As more universities around the country work to improve their in-arena and streaming video capabilities, I’m happy to work with the great team at Harvard to come to the forefront of sports productions.”

Halevi was the driving force behind Northeastern’s emergence in sports video. There, he directed live event broadcasting, post-production, branding and graphic design for the Huskies while overseeing hiring and training for the video production team and managing capital and operating production budgets for the Athletics department.

Halevi built Northeastern’s video archives and coordinated content distribution with national media outlets. His productions have been featured on ESPN, Comcast SportsNet, NESN and multiple local network affiliates. He also campaigned for and oversaw the construction of a video control room during the renovation of the school’s century-old Matthews Arena.

While at Northeastern, Halevi produced the first ever collegiate women’s ice hockey game on the ESPN family of networks, and served as the executive producer for all Northeastern broadcasts on ESPN3. Under Halevi’s direction, the video production team produced over 100 annual broadcasts, which were watched by 30,000 viewers during the 2011-2012 season.

Halevi led the re-branding efforts at Northeastern Athletics in 2009, a process that streamlined and simplified the marks and branding guide for the department. Additionally, Halevi coordinated the development process for the Huskies’ iOS mobile app, in use by over 10,000 users.

Before coming to Northeastern, Halevi served as video production and graphic design assistant at Boston University’s Agganis Arena, where he created commercial spots for national and local television broadcasts, and produced original content for the center-hung video board at the 6,000-seat arena.

Halevi holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and a Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern University. A native of Maccabim, Israel, Halevi lives with his wife, Barbara, and daughter, Clara, in Brookline, Mass.
