Behind the Mic: MLB Network Taps NESN Alum Watney as Host/Reporter; Horry Joins TWC SportsNet’s Lakers Team

MLB Network has tapped Heidi Watney to join its roster of on-air talent as a studio host and reporter, appearing across MLB Network’s studio programming. Watney will make her MLB Network debut in January, 2013. Watney most recently covered the Los Angeles Galaxy for Time Warner Cable SportsNet and previously served as the Boston Red Sox field reporter and host of Red Sox studio shows for New England Sports Network (NESN) from 2008-2011. Before joining NESN, Watney worked as a sports anchor and host for KMPH-TV and KFIG-AM radio in Fresno, California…

…Time Warner Cable SportsNet will bring in former Laker Robert Horry live in studio for select Lakers games this season. His first game was Nov. 20 as the Lakers take on the Brooklyn Nets. Fans can watch Horry joins studio hosts Chris McGee and Andy Adler and analysts James Worthy, Dave Miller and Kurt Rambis on the networks Lakers studio shows – “#LakeShow” and “Access SportsNet: Lakers”…

…Veteran motorsports voices Leigh Diffey (play-by-play), David Hobbs (analyst) and Steve Matchett (analyst) will form the new broadcast team for the NBC Sports Group’s Formula One coverage, which begins in March 2013. Additionally, Diffey will call IZOD IndyCar races on NBC Sports Network, following the retirement of legendary motorsports voice Bob Jenkins earlier this year. All three have worked together for several years on SPEED’s coverage of the circuit…

…CBS Sports Radio announced the launch of a new morning drive show for the upcoming radio network, featuring Tiki Barber, Brandon Tierney and Dana Jacobson. The program will be broadcast weekdays from 6-9a from the brand new radio network’s New York City studio in Tribeca.

CBS Sports Radio also announced Damon Amendolara as host of the network’s weekday overnight show.  His new program, “The D.A. Show,” will be heard on select stations from 2:00-6:00 AM, ET on-air, streaming online and through the Radio.com application for mobile devices.  Amendolara, known by his fans as D.A., joins the network from CBS RADIO Boston’s WBZ-FM “98.5 The Sports Hub,” where he has served as evening host since the station’s launch in August 2009.

Both shows will debut Wednesday, January 2, 2013.
