NeuLion-LiveU Alliance Streamlines Content Distribution, Monetization

NeuLion and LiveU have formed a strategic alliance to deliver an integrated solution using LiveU’s portable live video-over-cellular solution coupled with the Neulion Sports and NeuLion TV Everywhere platforms. The alliance streamlines the production and distribution process for content creators.

“What’s cool about this is, you’ve got to have gas for the car and content becomes the fuel for either premium video or video that you’re going to offer fans for free with an ad unit,” says Chris Wagner, EVP/co-founder of NeuLion. “So NeuLion has all of the apps and the platform that would help a sports publisher monetize that video, and now, with LiveU, we can get live video off of any field or out of any arena so it increases the amount of content for the publisher and allows them to make more money.”

When a LiveU pack is deployed in the field, the signal generated from the bonded cellular device is acquired and transmitted directly to NeuLion’s cloud-based transcoding service for provisioning and ultimate delivery to consumers worldwide.

The combined solution also allows content-rights holders the option of generating revenue streams from the delivery of high-quality content using the NeuLion Platform.

“Offering our customers a complete end-to-end solution for the delivery and monetizing of content is important to our expanding market,” Tim Prukop, director of sales, sports and new media, at LiveU, says in a company release. “NeuLion is the leader in live event services, and so is LiveU. It makes a great partnership.”

One of the pair’s primary clients is MSG Varsity, a Cablevision company that broadcasts high school sports in the New York City area. The network uses the NeuLion and LiveU solution to deliver more than 400 live events from numerous venues to computers, smartphones, and tablets.
