College Sports Media Awards to Honor Best in Video Production

After receiving a record number of submissions, Sports Video Group and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) will celebrate the best in college sports-video production at the 2013 College Sports Media Awards next Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. during the SVG College Sports Summit in Atlanta.

A total of 92 productions received nominations in four divisions spanning 16 categories. The nominees represent a wide array of college athletic and academic departments, as well as professional networks, production companies, and student productions.

Florida State’s Mark Rodin will be honored with the second-annual SVG College Sports Summit Pioneer Award.

Longhorn Network leads the way with 10 nominations in the Regional/Local Networks division, while its parent company, ESPN, also snagged nine nominations in the National Network/Professional division.

Several past champions were nominated again this year: CBS Sports Network, Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket, Ball State Sports Link, University of South Carolina’s Gamecock Productions, and University of Oklahoma’s SoonerVision.

“The 2013 College Sports Media Awards is a testament to the ever growing investment in production at the networks and on campus,” says Tom Buffolano, chairman of the SVG College Sports Summit. “We have seen a significant increase in production from college students in particular, who have more hands-on opportunities that prepare them for the next level. This bodes well for the growth of the industry as a whole.”

The ceremony will open with the presentation of the second-annual SVG College Sports Summit Pioneer Award to Florida State’s Mark Rodin, who has spent more than two decades heading one of the nation’s top collegiate video-production entities, Seminole Productions.
