TV Skyline QUBE:CAM World Cup Bound

TV Skyline’s latest concept in robotic cameras, QUBE:CAM, is a system that lives up to its name as it is shaped like a cube and also seems destined to make a big impact on the market in 2014. It has advantages over competing systems like 20 lenses, the ability to gunlock the camera, 1080p/60, and more and it will also play a key part at the World Cup next year as part of the HBS production kit at each of the 12 venues.

“The first time it was used was at the Confederations Cup this past summer,” says Robert Kis, TV Skyline, managing director. “And next year up to 180 cameras will be used in Brazil as we developed them with HBS.”

Also new at IBC was SPORTS:CAM5 HD offering a massive 23.5×15.6mm HD sensor, more than twice the size of a 2/3-inch sensor that measures only 11mm. The larger sensor means improved light sensitivity and other features include HD/SD SDI outputs, interchangeable lenses, an audio embedder, and 360-degree endless pan.

“Five or seven years ago there were some specialty cameras on the market but now everybody has one and everyone has a small part of the business,” says Kis. The new camera is expected to give TV Skyline a leg up on the competition.

TV Skyline is also busy building its fourth HD OB unit that will give its sports customers a new option by the second quarter of 2014. Kis says the unit will include the Snell Kahuna vision mixer with a Maverick control panel as well as Snell’s Sirius 840 router and IQ Modular infrastructure. It will also be able to seat up to 36 staffers in the main and support unit.

“It will be a completely flexible OB van and will be multi-functional,” says Kis. “It will also be 4K ready.”
