Axon’s Synapse Modules Support Level B

AXON Digital Design, modular broadcast infrastructure specialist, has further expanded the number of modules in its modular interfacing and conversion product line Synapse which support Level B.

AxonLogoWithin the SMPTE 424 standard (allowing for bit-rates of 2.970 Gb/s and 2.970/1.001 Gb/s over a single-link coaxial cable) there are two formats known as Level A and Level B. The Level A format is a full format transport of a 1920 x 1080 progressive frame with the frame rate of 50 or 60 Hz.

The Level B format is a multiplexing scheme where two streams of 1920 x 1080 interlaced 50 / 60 Hz video are transported over a 3Gb/s SDI link.

All Axon’s 3Gb/s capable Synapse modules ranging from DA’s to loudness control, keying and up/down/cross conversion now handle Level B.

“As Axon supplies interfacing and conversion equipment we are at the heart of a facility”, says Peter Schut CTO and VP of Engineering. “It is not more than logical that we get questions from our customers to facilitate the handling of Level B signals.”
