Campus Clips: University of Miami Extends Technology Partnership with Verizon; UTPA Launches Weekly TV Show

The University of Miami Department of Athletics and Verizon announced the continuation of its integrated corporate partnership, effective for the 2013-14 athletics season. The renewal allows Verizon to continue its exclusivity as the official wireless provider of UM Athletics.

Verizon will also receive a fully integrated benefits program across all sports, including an emphasis on new opportunities that further engage the two brands, providing greater access to the Hurricanes’ fan base.

In addition to continuing its traditional benefits – including the use of the university’s mark and logo, permanent venue signage, tickets, displays and hospitality – one of the main initiatives of the new agreement is to explore technology programs that showcase Verizon’s leading edge services and features that leverage Miami’s nationally-acclaimed social and digital media platforms…

…The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is launching a weekly television show called Bronc Country that will take a look at recent and upcoming contests for UTPA teams while going further in-depth with feature stories about UTPA student-athletes, coaches and teams.

The show will initially air on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. on Comcast Sports Net (CSN) Houston starting on October 10. The show will also air on McAllen Cable Network (MCN), Pharr Television, and 956Sports.com…

…William Patterson University Communications Department turned to Diversified Systems to upgrade its broadcast studio facilities. Diversified provided six Autoscript 17-inch TFT on-camera prompters (LED17TFT) for use within the departments’ media studies and production program.

The media production track at William Patterson University introduces students to the methods and techniques used to create aural/visual messages in a variety of mass media. Sequences of introductory and advanced courses in theory and practice of film, television and radio provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the aesthetics and techniques of media production, and prepare them for professional roles in different media fields. The production facilities give students hands-on practice in two television studios, a radio station, a film production lab, a digital audio production lab and several digital video and audio editing rooms…

…CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network hit the hardwood for the 2013-14 college basketball season with its most extensive schedule ever, featuring 240 total games, including six men’s Conference Championships. The Networks’ schedules showcase top teams and match-ups from 20 different conferences. CBS Sports Network televises over 200 games, the most ever by the Network, with coverage tipping off on Nov. 8 (9 p.m., ET) with USC at Utah State.  CBS Sports enters its 33rd consecutive season of college basketball coverage, beginning on Dec. 7 (12:30 p.m., ET) with the broadcast of UCLA at Missouri.  CBS Sports broadcasts 40 games, including five Conference Championships.

CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network recently announced deals to televise games from the BIG EAST and the American Athletic Conference. Together, the Networks televise 20 BIG EAST games and 29 contests from The American.  In addition, CBS Sports continues its associations with the BIG TEN, SEC, ACC, BIG 12 and PAC 12broadcasting the conference’s top match-ups. CBS Sports Network’s conference partners include the Mountain West,Atlantic 10, Conference USA, Patriot League, as well as NCAA Division II…

…More than half of all Big Ten Conference matchups will air on BTN, including nine straight weeks of doubleheaders on “Super Wednesdays.” In all, BTN will televise 67 men’s conference basketball matchups, including four Big Ten Tournament games and an additional number of non-conference games.

Meanwhile, a total of 61 Big Ten women’s basketball conference or tournament games are scheduled for live television coverage during the coming season. BTN will televise 53 games, ESPN networks will carry seven contests and CBS Sports will broadcast one conference matchup…

… ESPN networks will televise a minimum of 19 Big West men’s basketball games during the 2013-14 season. Five regular season Big West contests will be aired nationally on ESPN2 and ESPNU.  All matchups will be determined utilizing a “Wild Card” format in which ESPN will make its selections three to four weeks prior to the event.  Four ESPNU games are slated for Jan. 16, Feb. 1, Mar. 1 and Mar. 6, while ESPN2 will also host a Mar. 1 game…

…CBS Sports Network returns to the ice for the 2013-14 college hockey season as the exclusive national home of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC).  The Network will showcase the nation’s top teams with 18 NCHC contests, as well as two games from the Atlantic Hockey Association.  In addition to the regular season schedule, CBS Sports Network also will air the NCHC Tournament semifinals (March 21) and finals (March 22) from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., sending the NCHC Tournament champion into the 2014 NCAA Hockey Tournament. The puck drops on October 18 (7 p.m. ET) with coverage of NCHC’s inaugural season, when No. 7-ranked North Dakota visits No. 2-ranked Miami, followed by two perennial powers Minnesota Duluth at Colorado College (9:30 p.m. ET).
