SVG Summit Showcase Preview: A Roundup of Exhibitor Offerings, Part 2
The 2013 SVG Summit is fast approaching and will host more exhibitors on the Technology Showcase floor than ever before. In the weeks leading up to the Summit, SVG is highlighting the new products and latest technologies that will be on display at the New York Hilton Dec. 16 and 17.
Blackmagic Design
Among the products that Blackmagic Design plans to show are the pocket-size digital cinema camera with Super 16mm 1080HD sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, SD card recorder for ProRes, and lossless compressed CinemaDNG RAW capture: priced at $995; ATEM 1M/E Ultra HD live production switcher with 6G-SDI technology: $2,495; SmartScope 4K dual-rack monitor for broadcast accurate waveform monitoring on two 8-in. LCD screens of any SD, HD, and Ultra HD video source: $995; Teranex standards-converter processors with Thunderbolt I/O technology capture and playback features: $1,995; rack-mount audio monitoring with 6G-SDI video for Ultra HD, regular analog audio and SDI video inputs, integrated video monitor, and LED level meter: $1,495; and digital cinema camera with 13 stops of dynamic range, 2.5K sensor, built-in SSD recorder, open file-format support, color correction, and a built-in LCD with metadata entry: $1,995.
Ikegami
For many sports broadcasters, the Tech Showcase will provide the first look at the new Ikegami HDL-23, an ultra-compact POV HDTV camera equipped with three high-performance 2.1 million-pixel progressive CMOS sensors. The HDL-23 provides superb color reproduction, and its optical-block camera head is designed for minimum size and weight. The CCU is DC-powered for field use, and the camera system can be controlled by Ikegami’s traditional broadcast remote-control panels. Its small size, light weight, and easy operation and handling make it optimal for POV applications, including special locations such as at the goal or backboard, lightweight jibs, inconspicuous studio locations, inside the tight quarters of a control room, and any situation where a very compact camera is essential. Ikegami’s new SE-H750 system expander will also be debuting at the SVG Summit.
LiveU
LiveU, a provider of portable live video-over-cellular solutions, will showcase its complete range of bonded 3G/4G uplink solutions for broadcast, sports, and online media. The LU500, its newest professional-grade backpack, weighing only 2.2 lbs., will make its SVG debut.
LiveU will also feature the latest LU-Smart mobile application with its innovative handheld Smart Grip, Xtender antenna for extra-strong signal resiliency in congested stadiums, and the LiveU Central Management System, which allows full control and monitoring of multiple live feeds from different locations via any browser-supported device.
NVIDIA
NVIDIA will exhibit a fast, easy way to run complex applications, such as those from Adobe and Autodesk, to send graphics output over the network for display on a client computer. GRID VCA’s remote GPU acceleration gives users the same rich graphics experience they would get from an expensive, dedicated workstation. The turnkey appliance provides flexibility for creative, broadcast, and media companies, allowing users to access their virtual machine with a click of a mouse and get dedicated workstation‑class GPU performance delivered over the network. Virtual machines can be added, deleted, or reallocated as needed, and users can use a Mac, PC, or Linux computer as the client. The combination of graphics acceleration and turnkey simplicity suits organizations seeking the workstation performance and benefits of remote computing.
Panasonic
The AJ-PX5000G ⅔-in. 2.2 million-pixel 3-MOS shoulder-mount camcorder is the company’s first P2 HD unit with native AVC-ULTRA recording and built-in microP2 card slots. It features 720p and 1080p/i recording and is also the first P2 HD camera that will record in full-resolution, 10-bit 1080/60p (in AVC-Intra100). With its breadth of recording options, ultimate image quality, variety of professional I/Os, and expandability, it addresses niches in sports production, network news, documentary, and high-end corporate, as well as the rental market.
Panasonic’s AJ-PD500, the first P2 HD recorder with native AVC-ULTRA recording, features built-in microP2 card slots and the ability to record in full-resolution, 10-bit 1080/60p (in AVC-Intra100). With its range of format choices (including AVC-LongG and AVC-Proxy as standard and AVC-Intra200 and AVCHD playback as options), variety of professional I/Os, and multicontrol JOG/SHTL/MENU dial operation, the PD500 is suited for live-event systems, satellite facilities, houses of worship, production, postproduction, long-form documentaries, reality television, and news trucks and as a redundant playback/record device in news facilities.
SOS Global Express
SOS Global Express continued to expand its European presence in 2013 with SOS Global GmbH, located in Hamburg, Germany, and also a new presence in Moscow. The company’s Hamburg, London, Moscow, and U.S. teams are working together to coordinate the 2014 Winter Olympics, FIFA World Cup, Youth Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and many other events.
In the U.S., SOS is again working with its longtime customers for such events as its 27th consecutive Super Bowl, X Games, Daytona 500, and major tennis and golf tournaments worldwide.
The Tiffen Co.
Among the Tiffen products on display will be the brand-new Steadicam CURVE compact camera stabilizer designed exclusively for GoPro products, and the SteadiPrompt, specifically designed and engineered for Steadicam camera-stabilizing systems. The Listec PromptWare PW-10 teleprompter, which supports 7- and 10-in. tablets, will be mounted on a complementing Davis & Sanford Pro Elite tripod. Rounding out the showcase will be the new Lowel Prime Location light and the new Lowel Blender three-light kit, which combines three color-changing Lowel Blender LED fixtures with stands and AC adaptors to bring further creative options and a faster way to light “run-and-gun” interview setups.
