Quantel Launches Genetic Engineering 2 For Pablo Rio

Quantel announced the launch of Genetic Engineering 2 (GE2), the company’s second generation shared storage solution for post that delivers new levels of flexibility, performance and productivity for Quantel Pablo Rio color and finishing system users.

QuantelGE2 enables instant sharing of high resolution jobs between suites giving users total flexibility to move jobs at a moment’s notice. Each GE2 connected Pablo Rio has guaranteed realtime performance whatever the other suites are doing – even at 4K.

GE2 makes it possible to take on short notice jobs. It allows multiple suites to teamwork on tight deadline jobs and enables more suites to get involved when a job suddenly needs more resources.

GE2 enables up to four Pablo Rio systems to share the same GenePool storage. Third party systems can read and write to GenePool storage via the GenePool Gateway.   Pablo PA also connects to the GenePool Gateway to handle back-office tasks, ensuring that the frontline Pablo Rio systems spend the maximum time on client-facing work.

There is a huge range of potential GE2 configurations, which means that GE2 systems can be tailored to meet every individual facility’s workflow requirements. The GenePool shared storage can range from 18TB to support a two-suite HD production requirement, to almost 400TB (more than enough for even multiple simultaneous 4K or 6K Red Dragon jobs.)

“The number one issue facing post houses today is workflow, and Genetic Engineering 2 delivers the kind of flexibility and productivity they need to compete in a market where clients demand quality and speed in equal measure,” said Quantel Sales Director, Martin Mulligan.

Genetic Engineering 2 is available now.

Japanese Post House IMAGICA Invests in Quantel Pablo Rio for 4K, HFR
Japanese post-production company, IMAGICA, has purchased a Quantel Pablo Rio and Neo Nano color panel for 4K and HFR editing, color correction and finishing. Established in 1935 and headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, IMAGICA is home to Japan’s most extensive production and post-production facilities, providing services for the film, advertising and motion picture industries.

Pablo Rio is Quantel’s color and finishing system that provides productive workflow for 2D and S3D projects. Capable of handling 4K 60p in realtime, Pablo Rio runs on a PC hardware and exploits NVIDIA Maximus multi-GPU technology to deliver interactivity and productivity.

Akihiro Seino, Chief Researcher at IMAGICA, said, “When we first saw a demo of Pablo Rio 4K at NAB 2013, we were immediately impressed with its power. Its open architecture also means that Pablo Rio will be able to take advantage of new GPU and I/O card technology developments as they come along. We are doing increasing amounts of work at 4K 60p, and the ease with which Pablo Rio handles this in realtime is a major benefit to us. We’re also already looking forward to taking on 8K projects with Pablo Rio in the future.”

Quantel Sales Director, Martin Mulligan, said, “We are delighted that IMAGICA has chosen Pablo Rio to meet its 4K and HFR post-production requirements. Pablo Rio’s fast performance and intuitive finishing toolset provides IMAGICA with the ultimate post-production workflow for 4K and beyond.”
