Nemal Provides Cabling, Connectivity to Sports Customers

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome Nemal as a corporate sponsor. The company designs and manufactures fiber, copper, and hybrid SMPTE and HDTV cable, connectors, adapters, and assemblies. Its products include six versions of SMPTE fiber camera cable; a line of digital audio, triax, video and RF cables; flexible microphone cables; and the company’s patented DT-12 connectors.

In an effort to standardize broadcast cabling throughout the league in 2013, the NBA chose Nemal to design and manufacture a custom versatile and durable hybrid audio/video cable. The new composite cable significantly facilitates setup, with each team using the same cable with the same color code and markings. To meet the rigorous requirements of the NBA, Nemal manufactured the cable using proprietary jacketing materials and then cut and terminated the cable according to the needs of each team.

In preparation for the World Cup in Brazil this summer, TV Globo, a long-time Nemal customer, called upon Nemal, on short notice, to design and produce a series of triaxial connector adapters. Because many European broadcasters use the PAL standard, their equipment is not compatible with the Brazilian NTSC standard. The Nemal adapter series allows the users to quickly connect the two interface standards in either gender. Nemal designed a custom rugged metal housing for each gender, with a reinforced 1-meter pigtail to the mating end.

Since 1977, Nemal has served thousands of customers worldwide, including all major U.S. and Latin American broadcast networks, most major national and global sports events, and numerous local broadcasters and sports venues. The company has product approvals from both Lemo and Neutrik and manufactures a line of SMPTE and OpticalCon assemblies and adapters.

In 1999, Nemal established the first independent U.S. assembly and test facility for the then new Lemo SMPTE-standard HDTV fiber-optic connector and worked with Lemo to develop tooling and installation procedures. Nemal has participated in many of the largest HDTV-connector installations in the world and offers a range of services for HDTV fiber installations, including design, training, repair, and onsite support.

Nemal’s factory and headquarters, located in Miami, provide more than 40,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space and warehouse. This includes a design and test laboratory as well as multiple extrusion lines, cabling, shielding, CNC machining, and special-process equipment. Nemal do Brasil, located in São Paulo, is the company’s stocking and technical operations center for Latin America.
