Seen on Screen: FOX Sports Looks to Capitalize on Soccer Boon; CBS Sports Radio Debuts Live Online Video Simulcast of The Morning Show

With the World Cup behind us, the soccer action will not come to a halt, as FOX Sports will telecast 14 games over 21 days between July 23 and Aug. 12, with many of the games featuring Europe’s top players and clubs in highly anticipated matches on FOX, FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2, FOX Deportes, and FOX Sports GO.

It will all will begin on Wednesday with a preseason friendly from Pasadena’s Rose Bowl when MLS team LA Galaxy led by Landon Donovan will take on one of the most heralded soccer clubs; Manchester United.

A day later, the second annual Guinness International Champions Cup, the eight team bracketed U.S.-based soccer tournament, gets underway featuring AC Milan, AS Roma, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Olympiakos and UEFA Champions League winners Real Madrid.  The tournament is being contested in Toronto and 12 cities throughout America, with the final once again played in Miami…

… CBS Sports Radio launched a live online video simulcast of The Morning Show featuring Tiki Barber, Brandon Tierney, and Dana Jacobson.  The simulcast will be weekdays from 6:00-9:00a.m. Fans of the show now have the opportunity to watch the trio dissect the top stories of the day and interview the biggest names in sports live online or via a variety of mobile and tablet devices at www.watchtbd.com.

 ESPN announced a slate of four SEC Storied documentaries that will help kick off the new SEC Network, a 24/7 sports network launching August 14 and operated by ESPN. The films, which were revealed at SEC Media Days in Birmingham, Ala., will cover the iconic trio of Charles Barkley, Bo Jackson and Frank Thomas at Auburn University in the 1980s, South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier and his long history with the conference, the tragic story of Ole Miss defensive back Chucky Mullins and Vanderbilt running back Brad Gaines, and the devotion of 14 famous SEC fans, each of whom remains passionate about sports at their respective schools.

The SEC Storied franchise, from the creators of the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning 30 for 30 series, focuses on the people, teams, moments and events that tell the ongoing story of the Southeastern Conference.

The documentaries will air on the SEC Network as follows (all ET):

… ESPN and CrossFit, Inc. have agreed to a multi-year extension of their existing contract that keeps ESPN as the exclusive rights holder to televise the CrossFit Games with an extensive schedule on ESPN3. Beginning with this year’s 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games from the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., ESPN networks will televise more live action than ever starting Friday, July 25, at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN. Live television will continue on Saturday, July 26, at 8 p.m. on ESPN and conclude with the 2014 Reebok CrossFit Games Finals on Sunday, July 27, at 8 p.m. on ESPN2. … CBS Sports has extended its rights deal with The Professional Bull Riders. The multiyear deal will include 14 broadcasts on the CBS broadcast network, the most the PBR has ever had on broadcast, and 50 telecasts on the CBS Sports Network, including the World Finals from Las Vegas. CBS Sports and PBR have been partners since 2012.

“We are proud that CBS Sports will remain the exclusive television home of PBR for years to come,” said Dan Weinberg, senior vice president, Programming, CBS Sports. “PBR’s fast-paced, dynamic nature makes it a strong television property with huge potential for growth. We are excited to continue delivering the sport to viewers across the country.”

In 2015, CBS Sports will debut a new customized graphics package for PBR telecasts, to be used across both broadcast and cable.
